I have no idea how to convert AVI 2 MPEG. I have downloaded TMPGEnc but it doesn't open my AVI files. (Which for some reasone can be viewed only in Quick Time but not in real player or Microsoft media player...)
Thanks for your help!

it sounds that your avi file is ia quicktime files so be sure to install the quicktime plugin, http://www.vcdhelp.com/tmpgenc.htm

Thanks for your reply, I have installed the quicktime plugin but it doesn't seem to change anything.
What do you meen by saying that "my avi is a quicktime file"?
I copyied the file and renamed the extention to .mov, it couldnt be opned at all. Doesn't that meen the file is a regular avi?
Thanks again. -
O.K, I think I can be more specific with my problem now. My file is not a standard AVI file. It is an openDML AVI format. Is there a tool with which I can convert it to any other standard format?
Thanks. -
Dana,
Try this: load TMPGenc =>Option tab=>Environmental setting => VFAPI Plug-in Tab => AVI2(Open DML)File Reader and click on it with the right botton mouse and set it to the higher priority.
After try to encode it to .mpg file loading VCD or SVCD template.

Try VirtualDub. I believe it mplayer can open it, vdb will try to use the same codec.
