  1. I am trying to burn a VCD, but the audio has dropouts.
I thought perhaps if I reduce the audio bitrate, that would help.

But in TMPGEnc, I can't access bitrate...it's ghosted.

Right click on Bitrate and choose unlock or load the unlock template in the template extra folder. But VCD must have 224kbit/s or else it will be XVCD.

Is the dropouts after you encoded?? and only on your dvd player or on your computer also?

  3. The dropouts are only on the DVD player. They don't exist in the source file, and they don't exist when the disc is played on the PC.

    I have a Panasonic XP30 DVD player.

Is there anything I can do to eliminate the dropouts?

    Thanks!

  4. it sounds like something is wrong on your dvd player.. but a good audio engine is besweet. maybe your dvd player doesnt like the media you are using.

  5. Ok, now I'm really ticked.
I took the offending CD-RW up to my other CD player (Sony), that we used to watch VCD's on ALL THE TIME, and it doesn't recognize the disk.

    Tried a different media...same thing.

I did replace my Yamaha CD burner a few months ago with a Memorex.
Is there some way I can test that things are being burned ok?

Download toolame and set it up in TMPGenc's 'Environmental Settings'
Try that. Much better than TMPGEnc's audio encoder. toolame is what BeSweet uses but doing it this way is easier for you than to learn BeSweet, especially when you don't need it.

  9. Thanks, I'll try that.

It really bothers me that my Sony DVD player won't play these VCD's.
It makes me think that there is something going on with either the burner (Memorex 52Maxx) or the software (Nero).

As I said, I've watched hundreds of VCD's on the Sony, and these VCD's were all burned with my Yamaha EZ2200 burner.

Now suddenly, the Sony doesn't even recognize the VCD's?

    What else can I check?

You can also download SSRC and set it up in the same section where you set up toolame. This convert the sampling frequency from 48 to 44.1 better than TMPGEnc does as well.
