  1. Help! SOS!

I have downloaded two files which I would like to merge together. The files are in AVI format, encoded with that awkward non-standard audio codec. I have ripped out the audo using VDub, and saved it as a .WAV file for both files. I have then re-encoded them in TMPGEnc using the .WAV file as the audio source, dealing with each file seperately. I re-encoded them seperately as Super VCDs, as this is the format I would like to use.

I then merged the two re-encoded SVCD files together using the MPEG tools on TMPGEnc. I assumed that this would merge all things nicely, including the sound. However, the sound is badly out of sync on the last half of the newly merged file, although it is by and large in sync on the first half of the merged file.

Obviously something has gone wrong in the merge. But I have tried the operation again using different settings, and I still have the same problem.

I am a self-confessed newbie and a dumb dumb. Please can someone explain how I can merge these two files together whilst keeping the sound in sync?

    All help greatly appreciated ...

    Dan

  2. Unfortunatley, you did things the wrong way round. You should join the avi's and encode one large mpeg.
To do this in vdub, open file1.avi as normal, then select file->Append avi segment and select file2.avi. Now save out the audio as wav. Then select audio->no audio, Video->direct stream copy, File->Sav avi. Now you can encode the new large avi to mpeg, with the new large wav file as the audio source, and it will (should!)all be in sync.

It's been a long time since I made a SVCD but can't you
put more than one MPEG file on the disk ?
without gluing them together first ?

  4. I'm afraid I can't put more than one on the disk. The reason why I am trying to merge them is because I need to split the whole merged file over three disks (the two individual files are too big to go on one disk each.) If I merge them, I can then seperate them over three disks.

So you see, I do need to perform the merge somehow.
