DVD-r or DVD+r
What format would make sense for future use (ie:will one become the norm while the other becomes obsolete...like Betamax).

-r here as they are cheaper, only reason

I use both as i have a dual format burner. i usualy make my masters & personal dvd's on + but buy larger amounts of - as they usualy are cheaper but i tend to lean towards the + format 8)
When i bought my first burner i did'nt even realize there was a diff. between + & - until i tried to buy a spindle of - at my pc show

-R, because I wanted a drive that supports -RAM. The only drives at that time that supported -RAM were -R. Also because it is the officially supported format from the DVD consortium.
There are now fewer reasons to have to choose other than what you can get at your local store, or what you can get cheapest!Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they? -
I burn DVD+R/W medias using DVD-ROM booktype that gives me total compatibilty (so far) regardless of burning programs (Nero and RecordNow,... all work for me) so I'm not planning to buy a burner that won't give me the same option.
Rewriting speed will be an important factor for me when buying a new burner, as I use it a lot.You stop me again whilst I'm walking and I'll cut your fv<king Jacob's off. -
- R here
I don't see a reason to change that, plus -r is far cheaper where i'm from than +r is.
And i'm still using a 2 speed burner, again i don't see or need a reason to change that either.
I'll stick with my 2 speed burner untill it packs in, hopefully by that time we'll be able to get 32x speed or faster.

DVD-R FOREVER!!!
"If u cant eat it - u dont need it"
"Baby - If i dont hit it, Who will?"
"Why is Abbreviation such a long word"? -
I use DVD+RW, which I've hacked the Book type to be DVD-RAM (old 2.6/5.2 style), and burn with Mode2 and UDF 2.01. This gives me total DVD INCOMPATIBILITY!

DVD-R because DVD+R wasn't invented yet.

My strategy is simple : at home, I reused DVD-/+RW for testing and then burned DVD+R for archiving and for the master copy. At home, all my set top players, laptops and computers can play -/+RW and +R.
If I distribute copies to my family and friends outside of my home, then I burned with DVD-R for maximum compatibility and low cost.
That's my strategy. -
+R for the reliability , 4X speed , and its compatible with my three players . I cant find 4X -R discs with the reliability of those RICOHJPNR01 discs for around the same price 1.13 to 1.20 dollars U.S. .
Keep it on the big cam !
