To fix the audio problem if you have it pluged in through the back of your sound card then check to see if that is the source it is recording audio from. (double click on the speaker in the sys tray; click options; then recording then ok and see what is selected to record. if it is in the back it is proably line in and if it is pluged directy to the sound card inside the computer then it is more than likely auxillary. That might fix your problem. and about the first persons problem what is the exact error?

My problem is like this. when I plug the wintv into the pci slot, I install the cd that comes with it, when all the installation is complete I found out that I don't have sound coming out of my speaker. I double check to make sure I plug it in, still no sound. I click the otr, it display by 15, 30,45 (each click is add 15 min.), then I click rec, the counter is not counting the second, the counter 0:00:00 it should be display like 0:00:01 sec by the sec. Like the vcr you record it, you will see it the second counting away as how long you have been recording, after which I went here to post my first post.
After which someone told me to download some updated version of the software on the wintv homepage, and I did and I got sound, (wintvdrv42.exe) but there no botton for the 5 botton tv, otp, otr, pause and rec. I download pvrpcidrv15_19228, there the 5 botton, I click otr then rec error pop out "start encode unspecified error", the pause also has error, I can capture on avi format, but it would take a lot of time to encode it to mpeg. I took a 3 minute sample and encode it to mpeg and would you believe it took me about 30 minute to encode it and this is on p4.
I have a DVD decoder DVD Magic Pro (1999), I buy Win TV PVR model 880, I think this is the encoder (hardware)? right?
My conclusion is this: maybe factory defect why? because I test it also on my P3 450Mhz, the same problem. Run it on Win 98SE & Window ME. I have my win tv pvr almost 2 week, I ran so many test already.
I think everybody who buy win tv pvr, just click rec & it with rec.

  7. I have the WinTV PVR also. I have all the latest drivers from Hauppauge and I am using WinXP. They have a list of like 3 drivers you should install the updates for. It sounds like you have but just make sure you got all of them. Also you say when you push the record button you get "Start encode unspecified error" I get that too everytime I try to record. click ok and just click record again right away. It always works for me then. For some odd reason I always have to hit record twice but then it always works.

  9. well maybe I am just lucky I have had this card for 3 months, got the Regedit upgrades from happuage German web site, I use WIN98 with it, it records perfect MPEG2 for me with great Dolby Surround, I run the audio into the card, back out of the card into my sound card imput.
I record at 480x480, 2520 Bitrate CBR, audio 192, Sharpness 0.0, throttle at 0.070, once done I demux with TMPGE 12a, burn onto a CD-R and play back a great looking and sounding SVCD on any DVD player that will play SVCD's.
I use a 1.2 thunderbird with 512 megs of PC133 ram, Voodoo 5500 AGP video card, 30 gig 7200rpm Western digital hard drive.

  10. I have Win 98 also and am still having problems with sound (don't get any). I have checked the recording input, vol. , etc. All connections are fine. I cannot use the Hauppauge upgrades because they don't support Win 98. What do the Regedit upgrades on the German site do ?
