Up till now I have had great sucess with Nero 5.5 using DVD Video template but I am having some bizarre burn failures with Nero 5.5 at the moment. I also get the same failures using Record now, Image tools and DVD Decrypter.
I can only burn a disc successfully if I run it through simulation mode first (x4) and even then it may fail on the burn stage. I usually use Datawrite yellow tops, have also tried Princo white tops.
The drive will write to a -rw with no failures.
I have two hard drives on the same ide channel, and my writer and dvd-rom on the other. I also have a cd-writer on a external enclosure. My dvd writer jumper is on cable select (It has been on that setting since February 2003). I installed the second hard drive just a couple of weeks ago. That's when the problems started. Since then I have tried burning with the second drive disconnected and not present on the hardware set-up.
I have defragmented both hard drives, un-installed the drives and re-booted etc, but still get failures.
The really weird thing is, I can burn 100% no problems with Copy2dvd
I have done a full system recovery but still no success with Nero. The drive will burn a cd no failures.
I think it is a hardware issue, but I will be buggered if I can trace it.
Question
Why does Copy2dvd work and Nero fail ?
Could someone advise me on the best configuration of the hardware.
Would Nero 6 solve this problem ?
Thanks in advance.

I would have said to try some better media first.
Dunno why it works with Copy2dvd. -
I had and have the exact same problem. I too don't know how it started all I know is that Nero 5.5 gave me three coasters in a row. My DVD burner is a sony 500ULX external and I also have a aOpen cdrw external as well and two hard drives and a TDK CDRW internal and ASUS DVD player also internal. About one week ago all was great no coasters and I have burned maybe 20 or so DVD and a dozen or so CD but suddenly The walls came crashing down after I did a defrag on my hard drive. Since then Nero has done nothing but burn coasters. So I wrote to nero and sent them the error files to no avail they didn't even respond. So I removed nero and reinstalled it and even put back all the codec on my system. Since then I have atempted one DVD using nero and at 1X to be safe and it was successfull. I was using 4x LG dvd media I have never been able to burn at 4X everyone I tried failed but I had sucess at 2X. So by all this I have come to the conclusion That something I can't explain has gone wrong. So I don't use nero to burn dvd's anymore Instead a use TMPGEnc DVD Author Version 1.5 and it has never given me a coaster and I have gone back to burning at 2X. Let me add 2x burning is safer longer but much much safer.... To regulate the speed in TMPGEnc you must use media that is regulated...Example if you insert a dvdR 1-4x TMPGEnc will record at the disks maxiuim speed so I use 2x disk...
Sorry I can't help more but I think Defragging screwed my programs around and nero doesn't like defrag Its a mystery to me....Also I use Win XP Pro so if you have the same OS then we have a mystery problem.....Think Before You Do It -
upgrade your nero to the latest 5.5 version (free download). earlier versions of 5.5 have problems with the DVD Video settings.

I have tried the nero 5.5 and 6.0.15, and they give me all kind of problems. It took almost an hour to burn one DVD. I found a new software and it took only 25 minutes to burn a full dvd. Have you ever tried the burnatonce? I never riped any dvd at all. Give it a try see it will fix your problems. Good luck.

i'm having problems with nero too. then again, i'm a newbie, so my problems can lie anywhere. i've read various guides and posts and believe i'm doing everything right. dvd decrypter to rip full disk, dvd2one to transcode full disk, and nero to burn. it looks like everything is working fine while burning the video_ts folder. after it completes though, i try to view properties of the newly burned dvd and it shows empty with 0 bytes used 0 bytes remaining. my first 2 attempts were with big lebowski and memento. i've heard that copy2dvd may work or making an iso image first may also work. burning coasters on $.25 cdrs is one thing, but unacceptable for expensive media. gonna go try another methods now. btw, i'm using nero 6.0.0.15 with ritekg04 dvd-r.
