Recently I have experienced static and dropping sound from all video type playbacks. I can play music mp3 files fine with Winamp but trying to play AVI or MPEG files and the sound messes up. I have had some problems with windows 98se and had to reload recently also. I just made a short intro .avi clip for a video with Video Studio 6 and the play back was terrible but I sent it out to my MiniDV camcorder anyway and it was fine. Any ideas where I should start to look.

I found it!! Hooray! When I reloaded windows it reverted back to version 4 of DirectX. I just downloaded and installed the latest version of DirectX and the problem went away. I'm so happy!!
