Could one of you guys give some advice to a confused girlieBasically I've downloaded 3svcd files that constitute a movie I would like to put on dvd. Now they're all bin files so I ran svcd2dvdmpg as per guides (or so I thought) and ended up with 3 mpeg files. Now that doesn't seem right and if it isn't how should it be done?

That sounds right to me. You now need to import those files into a DVD authoring program, add chapter points and menus if you wish, and create your DVD video structure. Many authoring apps will do the burn to disk for you too.
Hope this helps. -
I don't think you can directly import the resulting SVCD mpegs into a DVD authoring tool. SVCD format is not compliant to the DVD spec, namely the screen resolution. I think DVD only accepts 720x480 & 352x480. SVCD is 480x480. As far as how to make them DVD compliant, I'm not sure. It's a question I have as well, as I have some VCD mpeg-1 videos that I would like to burn to DVD. I haven't gotten around to trying it, but the mpegs may have to be re-encoded by opening them in your software mpeg-2 encoder (TMPGEnc, CCE, etc.) and actually encoding them to DVD compliant mpeg-2s. I've searched the guides and haven't found one that addresses exactly how to do this, so can anyone shed some light on this in this thread??

Absolutely not correct.
480x480 is DVD complient. The 44 Khz MP2 audio is not DVD complient(although it works on many DVD players). VCD resolutions are also complient.
Nero is a burning program, not an Authoring program. There is a big difference between the 2. You could try burning a DVD with Nero, but turn off 'compliance'. Basically (after you convert the audio) you would drag/drop the 3 mpeg's into the project and let Nero convert it to VOB/VideoTS format. It's up for debate whether your version of Nero can do this or not.
A good Authoring program will create the Video TS folder and the VOB structure you need to burn with. In fact, most good authoring apps will burn the DVDR for you as well. However, there isn't one authoring application that does everything, they all mostly suck. Some won't do AC3, some don't like 480x480, somealways want to re-encode your work. search 'Authoring' for the lively discussion on which is best (or which one you can actually figure out how to use?).To Be, Or, Not To Be, That, Is The Gazorgan Plan -

if you have used svcd2dvdmpg then you need to know which authoring tool you will be using as that influences your choice of settings.SVCD2DVD v2.5, AVI/MPEG/HDTV/AviSynth/h264->DVD, PAL->NTSC conversion.

480X480 is not DVD compliant. It may work in some DVD players, but not all.
"Terminated!" :firing: -
I must have missed that disclaimer in all the guides. I have yet to find a DVD Player that got upset about 480x480 DVD's (well, anything from the last 2 years is fine).
I swear 480x??? was a complient resolution as was VCD resolution. I know MP2 isn't complient. And PCM is, but AC3 isn't for PAL but is for NTSC? Lord, it's all convoluted.
Baldric: Couldn't find what I wanted on that site, which is a list of all DVD complient resolutions. It did say that SVCD isn't a standard for DVD Players, but it doesn't list all the resolutions (both NTSC and PAL), and there are a number of them.To Be, Or, Not To Be, That, Is The Gazorgan Plan -
Ok so I chose TMPGEnc DVD Author to author the files after looking around. However, when I try and load the mpgs I get the error message "video gop is too long" What can I do about that?

What you have there is a PAL svcd, which is not what you want, Im sure
You have 2 choice's try one of these all in one tools to convert to a compliant dvd , Or do it yourself with a few tools
First take the mpegs and convert them to AVI's with FlaskMpeg making sure to change the resolution to 480x480 and the fps to 29.97 or 30 fps. (you could wait until you encode to make those changes up to u )
After you get your Avi's files merge them together with virtualdub.
After they have been joined together, encode to DVD compliant mpeg2 ( screen res of 720x480 frame rate of 29.97 (4:3) and mpeg 1or 2 audio will work. but if you have an older player then go with pcm audio
The Guides for each of these steps are here on this site under guides and are actually quite simple to follow.
I knkow this seems like allot of work but that's the way to be sure you will have a file that will work
once encoded you can use the aurthoring prog of choice and get a good dvd. ( don't let nero encode for u as it's encoder is crap. Nero is only good to burn that's it )
If i left something out someone else please fill in the blanks -

SVCD2DVDMPG has options for altering the MPEG headers to trick the authoring software into thinking the MPEGs are compliant, which you reset after authoring.
For example, if you use DVD Maestro for authoring, you should end up with 3 Mpeg files that have a 'tricked' header resolution of 352x576 (for PAL, 352x480 for NTSC) but with a real frame resoultion of 480x576 (480x480 for NTSC) that you then use to author your DVD.
Once you've created your VIDEO_TS folder, you re-run SVCD2DVDMPG to repatch the headers to 480x576 (480x480 for NTSC) before buring to DVD.
And until you're comfortable with the procedure and that you're sure that your player can work with these 'tricked' headers, use DVD-RWs -
If I wasn't doing this for an ill friend I don't think I'd bother. I've auhored cd's,vcds, and dvds but svcd-dvd is something else
The trouble is not one of the guides starts from where I was-downloaded files and follows the process right through.
Right, this is what I've done. I had 3svcd cue files downloaded which I used svcd2dvdmpg to convert into mpeg files. Following the guide, I used the following settings IN/out:Bin-ES, Horizontal Res Patch:352 1st header,Audio ESVD mpa, Video ES
VD mpv
This gave me 3 MPEG-2 480x576 25bps (4:3)PAL 2252 kbps clips which don't load into flaskmpeg. I know I need to author these so is there another prog to do it or do I go back to svcd2dvdmpg and change something? -
That looks ok although I use program streams with tmpgenc dvd author. When you add file and select your xxx_DVD.mpg as created by svcd2dvdmpg and the box pops up telling you the file properties I find it does initially say there is no audio but then a few seconds later it finds the audio and tells you it's compliant (re-encode audio box is not ticked). Did you wait a bit before clicking ok on that screen?
-
If you've only processed the MPG files with SVCD2DVDMPG once, then you should be able to feed these files into your authoring package.
This certainly works with DVD Maestro, coz that's what I use.
Once you've authored it, then you have to run SVCD2DVDMPG again before you burn it, this time setting the header(s) back to 480. -
No audio shows up no matter how long I wait with TMPGEnc DVD Author.Last chance seems to be DVD Maestro then. where can I get that?
-
Why don't you try the demo of svcd2dvd? It does 3 bins to dvd folders ready for you to burn.....

Use svcd2dvdmpg on your original files but tell it to produce program streams ie you get a <filename>_DVD.mpg file created that you then load in tmpgenc dvd author, works every time.
