  1. I have an avi file I think divx that I downloaded from the internet (I know I shouldn't download movies from the internet) I'm using TMPGEnc to convert it to Mpeg-2 format.

The encoding process runs fine but when I play the movie back in windows media player or WinDVD's Player the video and audio are synched up fine until about an hour into the movie.

I'v looked at several discussion here and try the suggestions, like strip the audio out of the ave as an uncompressed wav, then resaving the video with no audio using virtualdub.

    I have a P4 2.6 ghz with 1gb of ram and a 40gb 7200rpm hd running xp pro.

Now I've had no prob in the past with converting movies I've download.

    Any help would be greatful.

Consider yourself lucky. At least 9 out of 10 downloaded movies have errors in them, causing exactly the symptoms you describe.
Before doing anything else, scan for and remove bad frames with VirtualDub MP3 freeze.
