I bought a VCD (recorded on a CD-R) from a seller on eBay and neither my CDROM nor my DVDROM drive will recognize the disc. When I try to run PowerDVD I get the message "unsupported disc format." I've tried the disc on multiple machines running different OSes (98, XP, NT, 2K), but with the same result.
I have some other VCDs from other sellers/traders and they work fine on my PC (both drives), so I think my drives are not the problem.
The seller claims that the disc works fine on his machine and DVD player, which adds to the confusion. Is it possible the discs are authored incorrectly? Could it be a problem with the media?
Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Mike

Thanks for your response. The problem is, my CD-ROM and DVD-ROM drives can't even read the disc. I get the message: "Not Accessible. Incorrect Function." when I tried to view the disc with Explorer...

I would suggest that you try this disc in another machine with a different configuration (different drives, motherboard, etc.) perhaps a friend's. If it doesn't work on a different machine, you should return the disc and ask for a refund, the disc is unreadable and therefore defective.
If it was a problem just playing the disc, I would'nt be so quick to judge, buit if the disc cannot even be RECOGNIZED by more than one machine, it is definitely bad.

I'm not pissed, but disappointed by all this... Anybody else have any sage words of wisdom??? -
Addendum:
While that damn VCD/CDR disc still will not play on any of my PC equipment, it actually plays on my brother's Sony DVD player, which is about a year old. Go figure.
I guess I have to buy a new DVD player just to support this (and maybe future) VCDs/CDRs... Groan.
