    Hey Paul
I'm no authority on divx, but i'm pretty sure you do not need a dvd burner, prob. just need to make sure they are encoded correctly?
I never knew ps2's would even play any kind of divx, i don't think they can play vcd's either.
I'm sure someone will come along that knows more about divx & ps2's.

  3. The closest thing I've ever seen to what you're asking for is QCast Media Player (www.qcast.com). Although it allows you to play DivX files on your PS2, it doesn't really offer DivX decoding for your PS2 though. What it does is it offers you a way to transmit video, audio & picts to your PS2 over your home network (you would need the network kit for your PS2).

Realistically, I think you'd be better off buying a DVD recorder (as the prices have already falled below $150), or picking up one of the new low cost DivX compatible DVD players like the LiteOn LVD-2001. I have one myself & after a quick firmware update it seems to play anything...even non-compliant MPEG-2 streams from my ReplayTV.

  4. I believe there is a way to do this with a PS2 modchip, but i don't remember which one. Anyway, it's worth looking into.

  5. There is a VCD player for PS1, but nothing like that for DivX...& Nothing for PS2...

  6. i have a ps2 with the dms3 modchip and i have ps2 reality player installed and it works pretty good, but not great. i downloaded the software into my 8mb memory card and from there the ps2 grabs the codec from the memory card and plays the divx file. the dms3 has alot of capabilities and being able to search for software on the memory card is one of them

  7. so basically the only way you can play divx video on ps2 is if you use streaming video thru a network connection, you can't put an mpeg4 file on a dvd and play it that way?

  8. im sorry if i confused but what i meant to say is that i first downloaded the software into my pc so that i can burn it to a cd. i then load it up in my ps2 so that i can store it into my 8mb memory card and once thats done i restart my ps2 and let my dms3 explore the software contents that memory card has. for example it would be the reality player. i then execute that file and load up the tray with my divx file and sit back and watch my movie

  9. yes like supersam mentioned you need a modchip to play Divx on your PS2 unless you buy the Qcast or a new streaming program by the makers of Gameshark.

PS2Reality IMO is crap. It freezes, audio cuts out, not compatible with all types of MPEG4. It's tough to get it working 100%. I haven't tried the network streaming but I would asume it's better.

http://www.ps2reality.net for more info and download (need a modchip or use the cogwheel trick if you have an older PS2).

  10. yup..ur right the ps2 reality is crap. thats why i use my xbox as my all in one media center(divx, ogm, ogg, dvd, svcd, and vcd and mp3 player. for me, it beats having to switch the rca jacks in the back to plug in my standalone dvd player. i just load the xbox media player and relax

  11. so with the modchip i can play divx video on my ps2 but its going to work like crap. if i do try to play divx on my ps2 should i put the divx file on a cd-r or a dvd-r

  12. if u decide to use the ps2 reality player then yes...ur files will be played like crap. but if u decide to go with Qcast Tuner then u have a much better chance of ur divx files playing smoothly.

  13. what exactly does qcast consist of? i tried going to one of the websites that were mentioned and had poor results

  14. Do a web search for it.

Qcast connects to your PS2 and network adapter and streams video from your computer to your TV through your PS2.

  15. exactly what faceman said said

but if u really want a all around next gen console that can do it all...get the xbox. i have all of them but the xbox is the one i use for my entertainment purposes. the ps2 isnt really made for svcd, vcd, dvd-r, ogg, ogm playback and thats why u have to do all of these things to to get going to the way u want it to work. which is kinda a pain in the butt.

  16. I was thinking of getting a used X-Box just for the OGG/SVCD/ETC Media Player you can toss onto it.

It works that well with Divx and OGM?

  17. yup...i have divx all of kinds(4.12,5.1, 3.00) and they all play flawlessly. i have alot of avi files with ac3 sound and i also have ogm video files. and all every single one plays the first time all the time. i have the xbox media player (XBMP) V2.3 installed on mine. i have svcd, vcd, dvd-r on cheap ass media and the xbox plays it ...unlike the ps2 which is very picky on the media. bye the way it also plays ogg music files as well as mp3 files. i never have to unplug my xbox to play anything else
