  1. O.k after reading many help pages in dvdhelp, i have realised that decoding the video and audio seperatly seems ther way to go for better quality. Also that TMPGEnc decodes video well but not audio.

    "so"....

What do i use that decodes the audio "and" shows me the compression rate. Is the compression rate changable on some software?

Also when converting the video..... "Obviously" if you make the file to large then it will not fit in with the audio on the DVD.

So what ways round are there if the video file and the audio file are greater then the 4.7G disk?

Does this all have to be worked out before hand?

Many time i have decoded thinking i am taking up the whole disk.... when it comes to authorising the file it will fit on the disk easy?

Is this misleading information, how can you really tell the out come of the file size?

Oh and just to add, i haven't burnt anything to dvd yet, no such luck!!

I decoded for about 10 hours, video sweet but no audio? using TMPGEnc. Cannot think why i didn't have the audio as ALL set correct? is this down to the compression or sometrhing on MGEG2?

    Sorry for the long blabble.....

    Many thanks........

why are you using tempgenc to decode video ? or do you mean encode?

  3. changing the file to a MPEG 2 so i can play them on standalone DVD players.

Am i doing this all wrong?

I wondered if there was an easier or quicker way of doing it.....?

I've tried for so long to get this right, witout posting to much on here of the same old same old, but sometime you just have to....

The Video file has to be a MPEG 2 to play on anyones DVD player?

I just need to find a way of burning these with good video and audio quality.

I know there where many questions i posted above, but i need help!!!

    Many thanks.......

  4. I think you mean ENCODE.. changing video from one format to another..... that is ENCODING.

Anyway, before we offer any advice, we need to know some things....

What file types are you using? What is your video and audio file in right now?
Is it AVI, DVIX, XVID, MOV, MPEG-1 ?????

If video and audio are combined, have you seperated the video and auido files?

How long is the running time of your video?

  5. Basically the file came in two halfs.

Both Avi divX v5 AC3 audio, they both played fine on there own.

    Put together in Virtualdub, fine.

ENCODED in TMPGEnc to MPEG 2, no audio, which, i believe i cannot get around unless i seperate the vid and aud and ENCODE the audio with other software? due to TMPGEnc being a bit crap with audio shall we say?

So up until thyis point my streams have been VIDEO+AUDIO.

The file size is now 1,437,916. (1.4G?) running time 2 hours 5 minutes.

This is with video and audio before encoding. just the two files together.

  6. Use AC3Tool to convert AC3 to WAV and load your WAV and M2V files in TMPGEnc

  7. right, thats cool, but how do you load two audio files AND a video file into TMPGEnc?

    What is a M2V file?

This doesn't answer the question on File sizes...... anyone?

MovieGeek i really don't mean this to be rude in anyway..... its just that your reply was kinda..... well.... un explained, what with me being a newbie as such, it doesn't really help in the sense of application?

  8. sorry to re post again....

Is it best to Encode all audio to wav, does it HAVE to be wav to be burnt to dvd to play on all standalone dvd players........

    many thanks.

  9. Your audio is in AC3?

Then why convert it.... AC3 is DVD audio.
So use TMPGENC to encode your video to a MPEG-2 video file (M2V file .... video only .... no audio)

Then open up a DVD authoring program.....
    Load in your M2V file.
    Load in your AC3 audio.
Combine the two in the DVD authoring program.
    Export your finished DVD project.
    Burn it..

To answer your question about WAV files.. WAV files can be used in DVDs as well... they will play in a standalone player.

So if you want you can convert the AC3 to a WAV file... then use that in the authoring program. (your WAV file has to be 48KHZ, 16BIT)

  10. TMPG has problems with VBR (variable bit rate) audio and AC3 audio. When you convert either one wo a WAV audio TMPG will accept the WAV with no problem. Once you have the WAV file load it in the audio section of TMPG and forget about the AC3 audio. You don't need it. To get a DVD compliant file simply load the standard DVD template in TMPG and it will create one for you. There is an AC3 plugin for Virtual Dub in the tools section. This should allow you to save the AC3 to wav using Vdub. Loadboth halves of your avi files into VDub. Then choose;
audio>avi audio>full processing mode. Go to file and choose:file>save wav. This will create a wav file.
    Then choose; audio>no audio
    video>direct stream copy
    file>save as avi
This will create a video file. You will now have a wav (audio) file and an avi (video) file. Load them directly into TMPG or into Virtual Dub and frameserve to TMPG.

  11. thanks all, i'll get on with putting that into practise.

One thing before i go, for anyknows how to use Ac3 tool..........

why oh why oh why won't the bloody software pick up whats on my hard drive?

it will find everything else except my video files?

The other options posted sounds far easier....... but thanks for all advise from everone.

    cheers.
