  1. Hi there,

Has anyone any knowledge of whether you can flash the firmware of the Sony DW-U14A with the firmware of the DRW-510A.

I am thinking of getting one but want to know if I can upgrade the firmware first.

    Many thanks.

  2. The DRU-510A firmware does not work with the DWU-14A. The firmware fails to recognize the 14A drive. However, it's my understanding that no firmware is necessary with the 14A at this time. The only issues I've found with the DWU-14A up to this point is that some of my older DVD authoring or burning programs don't recognize that the drive exists. For example, Nero 5.5 didn't find it, but 6.0 did. The drive is otherwise working good. I did notice it takes awhile after putting a disk in for the drive to read it.

My original 5.5 Nero Express didn't recognize the drive either, I upgraded 5.5 using nero551050.exe [url]http://www.nero.com/us/631933457317970.html[url] from the Nero site and it then recognized it immediately. Dave

  5. Also, I've now noticed on many of my authoring programs, where the DVD drive is described the number 1.0(c) is at the end of it. I believe this is indicative of being the firmware update that everyone is having to download for the 510A. Looks like the DWU-14A already has been updated at the manufacturing stage.

  6. Its kinda new so you need the newer software packages to recognize it. Is it OEM?

  7. My drive is OEM. I bought it from mwave.com online. It was $188 and came with a CD from NTI with a bunch of software on it. Everything seems to work fine, although I haven't burned anything other than DVD +RW yet.

  9. Have you upgraded Nero 5.5 to 5.5.10.50 as mentioned in my previous post? If you haven't it won't be recognized by Nero.
