The -R discs are most likely CMC (and the +R discs are probably RICOH ' s . The only way to be sure is to buy them and then use a program that will tell you the media code ( such as DVD Info ) . Correction , it seems these latest -R discs are Pro Disk .
Keep it on the big cam !

That's good news if those Memorex DVD-R disks are Prodisc. The last 25-pack spindle of these that I bought (about 2 weeks ago at Staples) were CMC. Fortunately for me, so far I have burned 21 out of 22 successfully. One of those 21 was at 2X, but the rest were at 4X. Prodisc is supposedly better. Unfortunately, there are probably plenty of CMCs still out there, or maybe the Prodiscs are older and the CMCs are new? Who knows? There's no way to know by looking at the disks. You have to run DVDInfoPro to find out.

Just an update: I just burned one of these 4x Prodisc's with a 4464MBs movie and watched the whole film and it played perfect on my stand-alone. This was at 4x and had no errors. Great buy if they all work this good.

GREAT....so I'm getting excited about getting 4x Memorex DVD-R from Staples for 27.99 for nothing? They're crap? So far I'm 2 for 2 with burning them at 4x...no problems with either of the 2F2F discs!

    vice86,

I have used a bunch of the Memorex 4X dvd-r disks and they work perfectly with both my Pioneer A05 and NEC 1300A burners. The media code from mine are Prodisc S03. Maybe you should look at other problems. Also, I heard that some were CMC media, what are yours?

Also, I got mine at Office Depot.
