  1. Now I've never had any probs with the discs except the ones I bought burned at 1 speed. This was a while ago so I'm assuming they'd burn at least at 2 speed now. Anyone else recommend this deal? Or did I just get lucky with my first batch?

  2. Which one are you talking about? The -R or the +R. How long was it that you bought these before? Memorex -R used to made by Taiyo Yuden way back when that burned at 2x. Now it is made by CMC.

  11. I get the coupons in snail mail about once a month. They have a code on them so can only be used once.

The -R Memorex have been CMC for quite some time.
    I don't think I'd use them if it was buy 0, get 2 free !!! :P

I'm going off a test from a few weeks back, purchased at Best Buy on a whim, using both Memorex "2x" and the 4x. The "2x" refused to burn at 2x in a Pioneer 103 (and took a long time to be read by a Pioneer 105). The 4x had errors past 4GB. I took them back. They were CMC, made in Taiwan.

I've had Verbatims too, the MCC and the CMC. I miss the MCC. The CMC ruined Verbatim. I used a few CMC Verbatims, most of them had errors at random spots, not just the end. Exchanged them for store credit and bought some photo paper and ink.

I have a similar story for KHypermedia. Again, CMC, errors past 4GB, and burn speed issues and other random errors.

No jumping here. Just my results.

If this has changed since last month, and the Memorex ones are not CMC, I'd be very surprised. Any brave sole willing to buy some, test them, and post results, is appreciated.

I bought a 25-disk spindle of Memorex 4X DVD-R from Staples. They are made by CMC according to DVDInfoPro. So far I have burned 15 out of 16 successfully at 4X, all > 4 GB. I wasn't in the room when the one coaster occured, and my wife closed the burning program when it happened, so I am not sure of the error.
Maybe it's just my Sony, which so far has burned successfully at 4X every 4X media I have thrown at it, except for a couple of Longten 4X DVD-R. I don't count those because I didn't pay for them. :P

  17. Ebenton,

Thanks for the info. I'd like to stock up but wanted to know the speed and quality. Good CMC 4X might be worth it, expecially at this price.

I have a dual burner, so has anyone bought the Memorex +DVDRs yet and analyzed them. If they are Ricoh 4X then I'm rushing out, because I've had good results with them.

Update - Someone on the fatwallet forums posted the media ID from their Memorex -R purchase and it was Prodisc 4X. Has anyone else gotten Prodisc instead of CMC for the -R?

For those with dual-format burners, the only "bad" thing about this offer is that the coupon says "Buy one, get one free." and then in small print, "of same item". This means you have to buy 2 DVD +R spindles or 2 DVD-R spindles, but you can't get one of each.
At least that's how my local Office Depot interprets the coupon.

As far as the Prodisc Memorex DVD-R is concerned, those appear to be the DVD-R you get when you buy the Memorex 10-pack in jewel cases in a box. As far as I know, these are 2X, not 4X.
When you buy the 25-pack spindle of Memorex DVD-R, you get 4X CMC.

  24. Don't waste your media. Burn it on re-writable media first.

  25. I've used the Memorex in the three pack jewel cases and they all burn in a bad way on my Pioneer DVR-105. The burn "clouds" the discs' surface and fails half way through. I believe these were CMC discs. The same goes for the cheap kHypermedia discs also.

Went to Office Depot yesterday to get in on this deal and they were all out of the +R discs . But to my suprise the manager happily substituted a 50 pack of +R discs for the same price . By the way they had plenty of the 25 packs of -R discs . RICOHJPNR01 these are the best discs I have ever used . Go out and get some . You wont be sorry .
Keep it on the big cam !

  27. So I picked mine up today (the -R) and the label says CMC. Will I have problems with this on my Pioneer 105? I ask because I am making disks for ebay and I would like to know how stable these are at 4 speed. Should I burn at 2 speed? Thanks for the help. I previously had some Memorex discs that burned at 1 speed (the jewel cases) and I had no probs or complaints from people I sold to.

  29. Hey guys,
How do you tell if it is CMC or the Ricoh disks. I went up and looked at the packages and I didn't see either of them on there.

    Thank you.
