  1. Hello, I just bought a Lite-On 166s and put it in a USB 2.0 enclosure. When I try to rip a dvd in ISO mode "read", I get a message "Drive is busy". Dvd decrypter works well with my pioneer 106d but the rip speed is slow, so I bought the Lite-On Dvd Rom.

Decrypter recognizes the Lite-On drive because I'm able to select it for the source but when I begin to read, I get the "Drive is busy" message and then my Lite-on external drive is locked and decrypter freezes and I have to restart my pc.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks

I don't really know- but if it was me (and if you don't get a reply from someone who knows more than me- which probably just about everyone here) then I'd try plugging it in the IDE cable instead of USB and see if it works then.

  3. I'm able to use the lite-on and the pioneer 106d external usb 2.0 with another dvd backup software and the lite-on is able to read and rip the dvd....I don't know what else to check....I'm using Windows XP and I'm able to use the lite-on with other applications.

I also uninstalled my other drives and only had the lite-on but dvd decrypter still says "Drive is busy" when I try to read in ISO mode.

When I installed the lite-on external usb 2.0, Windows XP recognized it and I didn't have to install any drivers.

Are there some drivers that I may need to install? I really love using dvd decrypter and I'm frustrated that I can't get it to work with the new lite-on.

    Please, anyone....help...thanks

  5. Try these tricks:
1.play DVD for one minute in PowerDVD or WinDVD.
    2.make sure DMA is enabled.
    3.d/l ForceASPI Drivers.

It's ABSOLUTELY an interaction of some sort between the USB enclosure (USB drivers) and the ASPI layer.

I always recommend AGAINST USB for this very reason. I use firewire. But then again, Firewire sometimes has this problem as well. It's sort of a hit-or-miss thing. ASPI just plain sucks, and always has.

  8. It's a problem with DVD Decrypter and the 166.

Here is what Lightening UK ad to say on a forum near you :

Liteon 166 (and some 165) drives are weird and dont work in the same way as all the others I have tested.
The normal i/o key exchange fails for reasons I wont go in to and hence the old brute force method kicked in.
I've implemented a work around for this in the next release.

Maybe v.3.1.7 will be out soon ... until then ... you could try AnyDVD
