  1. Wondering if there is any way to get nero or whatever to write an 800 meg avi file to a CD. Since one can write 800Megs of mpeg data to a vcd/svcd it would seem there would be a way to get 800megs of avi on a cd also. I understand the difference between storing data and video as far as the error correction eating up the extra megs. I guess the overall problem is that nero wants to store the avi as data, hence the limited capacity.

I guess the question is can I force nero to treat the avi file as video instead of data? I'm not concerned about watching the avi from the cd I just want to get it onto cd so I can free up same hard drive space but obviously I want to keep it as an avi. Can I just change the block size or something along those lines?

I may or may not be able to do it by overburning but would prefer not to resort to this if I don't have to.

  2. you could try zipping it if you did not want to watch it from the disc.

Or why not just break it into two files using Virtualdub or something, then save it it two seperate CDs?

A final option would to be encode it to an mpeg, that would possibly reduce its size.

It's called MODE 2 formatting. I don't know how to force Nero to do
    it.

  4. have a look at doom9 forum someone has developed an experimental way of writing data discs in mode2 so you can get roughly 800mb on a Cdr.

There is much less error checking in this mode tho...caveat emptor
