I also seem to be having problems w/ the NEC ND-1300A, although I'm not sure if it is a media incompatibility problem. I'm just trying to burn a Memorex 1x DVD-RW. I used numerous programs to burn a SINGLE file of arbitrary size (< 1 MB). However, I keep getting the same result. When I used Nero 5.5.10.35 to burn this DVD ISO, at the burning process, I get an error. When I checked the error log, here is the couple of lines prior to the error:
3:35:14 PM #26 Phase 133 File dlgbrnst.cpp, Line 1655
Writing short lead-out
3:36:03 PM #27 CDR -1093 File ThreadedTransferInterface.cpp, Line 1468
No seek complete
3:36:03 PM #28 TRANSFER -24 File ThreadedTransferInterface.cpp, Line 1468
Could not perform end of Disc-At-Once
When I try to erase the DVD-RW with Nero, after it tries to erase it, I end up with the error message "Program Memory Area Update Failure". The disc can no longer be read or erased ever again.
I then tried to use DVDInfo and checked the media, it registers as a blank DVD-RW and I can erase and format the DVD-RW perfectly with it. But when I use RecordNow MAX and look at its info wtih Disc Explorer and Disc Properties, it displays the starting track with a negative starting time, I've attached a screenshot of the info.
I thought maybe it was just this DVD-RW that was screwed up, so I opened another DVD-RW of the same brand and it came up with same results. So perhaps it was a defective 3 pack of DVD-RW. So I went to futureshop and bought a new pack of the exact same DVD-RW's. The results was no different. I need help!! :a

I have the same problem with the Memorex DVD-RW(ProDisc), the good news is that if you can wait 60-70 days memorex will replace them with a supposedly better media,or give you your money back with a store receipt. I will wait for a replacement. I bought a dozen because the price was so good at Future Shop, but I guess thats why the price was so good, crap, crap, crap.
Just shut up and listen dumbass -
Same problem here with memorex 1x DVD -RW and my Nec-1300a firmware 1.05. Bought 3 packs of 3 at Future shop and tried 6 different discs. Successfully burned 1 DVD video, 1 DVD video that did not end properly but played ok in my Apex AD700 until it locked at end of the movie and 4 more that only wrote a lead_in and quit. When I checked the specs it said empty but not recordable on the 4 discs. I played around with various software and finally got them erased. I returned them plus the unopenned pack and asked if I could get the Memorex 2.4x +RW as a substitute at the same special price. They agreed and I am very happy with them.
I bought a spindle of 25 discs 4x -R (E3Works Pearl Discs) and the stupid things will not write at any speed. I won't list my software but believe me I tried them all. I checked the specs using DVDINfo

Anyone know of any problem with these and the NEC-1300a writer?
I guess these will go back. At least none were damaged cause it won't even write a leadin although it sees the discs. There's not much to do but then I can't do much anyway. -

Roxio Easy DVD 6 classic erased one of them for sure but didn't work an all of them. I also used dvdinfopro, cdrwin5, alcohol 120%, clonedvd (dvdburner) and recordmaxnow but I can't recall which one worked. I also used another called I believe, burnatonce or burn2dvd (Hope I don't knock the wrong app due to my bad memory), but removed it right after because it had some sort of spyware which interfered with my other burning apps. It kept removing my licence reg from nero and defaulting it to demo among other things. One of the discs was supposed to be damaged but I was able to clear that up with a full erase. I tried it again and got caught and had to do a lengthy full erase for a second time. All the other discs finally erased with the quick format. Some of the burner apps said the discs were empty and fine but when I tried to write they said that there was no space or gave a write error. Nero was the one that always gave the "not recordable" msg when I checked the specs even though it said it was empty so when Nero said it was "recordable" then I knew the erase had worked completely but I did not try to write again cause I was fed up with the problem and just returned the discs to Future Shop. To their credit it was a no hassle exchange for a better product.
I hope you test those 4x E3works dics soon cause I won't keep them if you have the same problem. There's not much to do but then I can't do much anyway. -
It is NOT the drive, it's the Memorex DVD-RW disks!!!!!
Had the same prob, I got the NEC 1300a too, ... the disks are just pure junk, I returned them to the Future Shop and got Verbatim DVD+RW disks from Staples instead. You can try Memorex DVD+RW disks, they should be good. -
Would my standalone DVD player be able to read +RW??

To BOng:
What's your standalone?
I got Panasonic RV32 and it does play DVD+RW disks. -
lol...i just accidently erased that -RW...it is finally coming up as a blank to all my dvd burning apps...
Dubber: mine's a cheap Electrohome VCD/SVCD/DVD/MP3 player, I'm not sure it can play -RW or +RW, or even -R for that matter. I'm burning a full DVD on the -RW right now and seeing if it can even complete the burn successfully!
*edit*
Woohoo!! Successfully burnt the -RW! However, my DVD player cannot read -RW.Will most DVD players be able to read -R tho?

Check the 'DVD Players' section on the left... I see that ElectroHome EH8181 can play them all... and all Electrohomes play DVD-R.

That's odd, I have the EH8181 but when inserted the -RW, it had a lot of trouble reading it (actually cant play it at all!) and made a lot of weird noises in an attempt to play it.

Ive read somwhere on this forum, that the NEC 1300A is not compatable with 1x DVD's....
Noob alert! -
I just bought a NEC 1300a DVD+-RW writer, with firmware 1.07. I have some problems burning DVD media. I use nero 6.0.0.1 with patch (erase BUG) with both Imation DVD+R en Fuji DVD+r media.. I used the ASPI checker and it returned fully operational (version 4.6). When I tried to burn a data disc, I get this error in Nero: error reading data. It appears after Nero wrote 10%-40-% of the DVD, so I can throw it away. The DVD drive is connected as Secondary master. I also tried DVD-R media from TX. When I try to burn this at 2x I immediately get the message: unable to start disc at-once.
Next thing I did was removing NERO, Flash my BIOS (CUSL2 1006 – CUSL21009). Then I installed instant copy 7. First made a disc image (.pdi file) on my HDD. Then I tried all the media I mentioned above but constantly get errors like: ILLEGAL REQUEST: INVALID ADDRESS FOR WRITE. I even bought some recommended media (VERBATIM DVD+R) but also get the error. With the DVD-R media I get another error like invalid format or something like that (don’t know exactly). I really don’t know what to do anymore, I think I’m gonna place the NEC 1300a in another PC. It’s now in a Pentium III 800 Mhz with 512 MB RAM and a 20 Gb and a 80 Gb of HDD. Or coud it be the DVD burner is corrupted ?
BTW: I succeeded in making a data disc with nero on a DVD+RW from Imation -
I have had a NEC 1300a for about a month now, 55 disks later ive only burned 2 coasters (both my own fault) ive been using BulkPaq x2, but recently bought some 4x to which i recieved a "illegal medium" error 1.07 sorted that out, but i still cant burn at 4x, (power failure)
I personally use Nero 6.0000 (a flat ultra installation) and the only time it has failed is due to the above power failure.
Perhaps its the media youve chosen, not much help i know, but these bulkpaq are superb disks..Noob alert! -
I placed the NEC 1300a in another PC (PIII Cel 1300 Mhz) I am now capable of burning the Imation en Fuji DVD+R without any problem. I also used a previous version of Nero (5.5.10.35). Only the TX(Think Xtra) DVD-R media gives an error (illegal medium). Is there anyone who succeeded in burning this media with the NEC 1300a ?
