    Hi,

I have a VHS tape that consists of 20 music videos. Each video being roughly 5 minutes in length. I would like to convert this tape over to DVD and set up the menus so each video is listed separately and can be accessed via the menu screens.

I first created separate MPEG2 files for each video and proceeded to author the DVD using Ulead's DVD Workshop. The video quality and menu navigating turned out great. The only problem being there is an unusually long delay between when a video is selected in the menu screen and when the actual video starts. I've noticed that the deeper I get into the menu screens, the longer the delay. For example, if I select a video from the first menu screen, the video plays almost instantly. If I select a video on the last menu screen, it takes almost 30 seconds before the corresponding video starts to play.

I examined the structure of the finished DVD and noticed that each separate music video clip was given a separate title, with each title consisting of a single chapter that was the video clip itself. Therefore, there were 20 titles and chapters. Is this structuring the cause of the delay? Would it be more efficient to have just a single title that consists of 20 chapters (one for each separate video clip)?

    Thanks.

  2. Hi Cornicker,

Have you imported each video as a separate movie?
If you did your DVD will content a VTS (Video Title Set) for each video.
Try to hold the number of Titlesets and menus down, in my opinion this will fit your problem.

One way to do is to make one big videofile (and same for audio if you’re using elemental streams) out of all videos. To do this try to use Tmpgenc.
To track all videos you should insert chapterpoints for each video.
To hold the number of menus down you can create menus like:
    Video 1-5
    Video 6-10…. And so on.
Define buttons in each menu to jump to the selected video (now chapter)
This way will create a DVD-structure like this
    VIDEO_TS.BUP
    VIDEO_TS.IFO
    VIDEO_TS.VOB
    VTS_01_0.BUP
    VTS_01_0.IFO
    VTS_01_0.VOB
    VTS_01_1.VOB
    VTS_01_2.VOB
    and so on

This is the way I did several times and I never had problems like yours.

PS.: try to compile your project to HD first to test with PowerDVD or any other player.

What Typ of dvd´s do you use?
