I am trying to open a video that requires media player 9 to play. It plays fine in media player and BSPlayer but I can't open it up in VirtualDUB. It says it needs a WMV3 codec. I am not sure where I can get this or if VirtualDUB can even open it up anyways. Does anyone know how I can open this video in VitualDUB?

    THANKS

As I recall, only an earlier version of Virtual Dub can open a .wmv file. I believe it was version 13c. Search the web, and you may still be able to find it.

OK the main problem is that I can't open it up but any version of virtualdub says it can't find the supported codec the movie is using. it says cannot find WM3 decoder or someting along those lines

The reason I ask this is because the movie is 800MB so it won't fit on 1 cd so I need to compress it to 700MB but I can't since I need thw WM3 codec or whatever that is, SInce virtualdub can't open it because of this I can't do anything. Need help

Well, you can use the wizard in TMPGEnc or its main program to shrink it down for you. Use the main program if you want to save it as an AVI.

This doesn't work. I can't open the movie up using TMPGEnc. It says file not supported

"wmv3" is the four character code (FOURCC) for media encoded with the Windows Media 9 Codec. I would start by making sure you have all the proper video codecs installed for Windows Media 9. Start here:

    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/9series/codecs.aspx

You might try reinstalling (or installing) the latest version of Windows Media Player. This should automatically get you up to date with the latest codecs.
