Hi![]()
I'm having a terrible time converting 'Princess Mononoke,' that I downloaded from the internet, to a VCD. I believe the version I have is called the 'Princess.Mononoke.DVDRIP.TheFrail', and appears to be an AVI file. I'm not entirely sure if it is an AVI file as I am new to this sort of thing, but I belive it had an AVI suffix.
When I play it back on my computer using Windows Media player, the audio is in perfect synchronisation. However, when I convert it using TMPGEnc to VCD, the audio goes out of sync.
I have tried ripping out the audio as a .WAV file using virtualdub, then re-encoding it with the .WAV file as the audio source in TMPGEnc, but the same problem occurs. This occurs regardless of whether I am in PAL or NTSC mode.
Can someone please, please help me with this? Has someone else ripped this movie and had the same problem? Would I be able to burn this directly to DVD without re-encoding if I could obtain a DVD burner, and hence bypass the audio sync issue?
Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated. I truly do not know where else I can turn.
Daniel

Well, the whole point of downloading was that I wanted to see the movie before buying the DVD. To my knowledge, it has never been on the UK cinema (it is a Japanese anime film) and is unlikely to appear on UK TV. Therefore, the only chance I have of viewing the film before I buy is to download it first and watch it on my TV.
I don't consider it to be illegal - I will purchase the film eventually, as it has a very high reputation. I just don't want to find myself buying a turkey.
Also, I find your own attitude hypocritical. There is absolutely no legal reason for ripping a DVD you already own. If you are copying it for your friends, then you are worse than me. And don't give me some bullshit about backing the DVD up - as if you need to!
I'm sorry, but the whole area of DVD ripping is murky, and as I understand it any ripping of DVDs is illegal. If you won't help because you don't understand the problem, then fine. But don't sit there and take the high moral ground when you are just as bad as I am, if not worse.

I bought all the Miyazaki movies before even knowing what they were about. I know that if it is from Miyazaki (the director of Princess Mononoke), that it will be good. I didn't even read about them, because I knew that they were going to be good. Just buy it. It is a great movie.
If you like Princess Mononoke then get
Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind
Laputa: Castle in the Sky
My Neighbor Totoro
Kiki's Delivery Service
Porco Rosso
Spirited Away
and in a couple of years, Howl's Moving Castle (not out in Japanese theaters yet).
I may goto the Premier of Howl's Moving Castle in Japan, without even knowing what its about, because I know its going to be good. If I don't go, then I am going to import the DVD as soon as it comes out.

Seriously though, GotF is the most amazing movie ever made. I won't spoil it or cheapen it with my words that could never do it justice, just check amazon.com's description. Even that only scratches the surface of how surreal it is. I was blown away by how much emotion it showed, I never thought an animated movie could do this so well. Perfect Blue and Tokyo are different (more of the oddball sci-fi stuff...PB seems like what would happen if David Lynch wrote a screenplay for an animated movie) but great animated movies as well.

Ah yes, Grave of the Fireflies. Increadible movie. Directed by Isao Takahata (Also works at Studio Ghibli), one of Miyazaki's closest colleagues.
He also directed Pom Poko. Very funny movie. But I didn't care much for his movie Only Yesterday.
The Only Studio Ghilbi Movies I don't own would be, The Cat Returns, and My Neighbors the Yamadas. But I am looking forward to seeing both.

tgpo, you seem (like everyone else on this site) to be extremely judgemental. It seems my crime is that I am honest.
What do I mean by that? Well, looking at the forums, for every person who claims to be using camcorder footage, most people say that they are using 'downloaded files.' This is a cleverly disguised way of saying exactly what they are doing without actually admitting to downloading warez. You know and I know that they are downloading warez - there are no other film downloads out there that I know of that are legally downloadable. Unless you think they are downloading the latest Half-Life 2 game movies and burning them to DVD. Yeah, right. You can nitpick and be pedantic, but we all know what they are up to.
You may accuse me of pretending to know everything about everyone on this site. I in turn accuse you of being naive.
Deal with it.
Incidentally, of all these people who are using 'downloaded files' (I quote), none of them seem to have received a warning. I have one already, having only made one post.
So take your 'my shit don't stink' attitude and **** off.

Theres a difference between suspicion of people downloading warez, and people admitting it. You can be 99.9% sure its Warez, but unless a person flat out admits it or slips up and gives the wrong info, nothing can be done.
For arguments sake lets say 50% of the people here are downloading Warez stuff...if it isn't clear in their posts, nothing is done. If its clearly admitted, they get a warning. It makes sense to me.
