  1. Hiyas. There seems to be a lot of talk about the LVD-2001 player, but not much on the LVR-1001, which allows your to record from most inputs directly to VCD/SVCD! I'm considering buying one and am willing to pay the extra bucks for it if it has all the fixes the LVD-2001 is getting! I can't seem find anywhere near as much info on this model though.

I just want a few reviews or comments if possible (read a bit on the web, but most of them don't talk about the divx side of things much). More importantly, I want to know if the firmware upgrades have been fixing the same things the LVD-2001 has. For example, the last firmware on the LVD-2001 enabled the player to FF/RW within divx movies (something they couldn't do out of the box).

Can anyone confirm if this feature has been added in the latest LVR-1001 firmware as well? I e-mailed LiteOn a week ago but have gotten no response.

I know the players would be almost identical in the way they play movies, but the firmware upgrades might not be as frequent due to differences in popularity. Thanks for any info anyone can pass on!

  2. I downloaded the latest BIOS file for the LVR-1001 and unzipped it but it does not give any information as to what was fixed like the LVD-2001 file does. I thought about buying a LVR-1001 briefly but I figure that the extra cost they charge for adding a CDRW burner was not cost effective for my purposes. By copying CDs in my computer with the CD Burner I already own I am saving the addition $140 (especially since my $50 Leadtek TV2000XP Deluxe in my computer does a good job of video capturing). I just don't think that the LVR-1001 would offer me much bang for the buck. Now if the LVR-1001 offered networking and a large hard drive instead of just a $50 CDRW I would have thought a lot harder about buying it. Of course if you want to free up the CD Burner in your computer to copy the CDRs you already burned and you don't have a video capture card it might just be worth the extra money. Personally I am going to put that extra $140 towards a DVD burner for my computer in a few months time.

LVR-1001 firmware updates should not address the same issues as the LVD-2001 firmware, because they are two completely different machines.

the LVD-2001 is a DVD player + Mpeg 4 (DivX, XviD...) playback.
the LVR-1001 is a DVD player + CD-RW burning. it does not play Mpeg 4.

you should have gone to the LiteOn site and read the descriptions carefully.
