    is there a how to guide to just extract video/audio from a file. Know how to do it with Tmpg but cannot find a guide for Virtualdub either here or on there website.

    There is one in the guides section. There is a handy search tool for them, you should have no trouble finding it. Just select VirtualDub as your program.
