  1. I'm trying to export a movie in Adobe Premiere. I've tried exporting the file as an uncompressed quicktime file (uncompressed MOV file), but the file size was 300mb+ for a 55 second clip. I'd like to use a "compressor" aka codec to compress the file, but I'm not sure which one is good to use. So basically I'm looking for a codec that will shrink the size of my movie by a lot, and keep the same quality. This codec would have to be a common one because the file needs to be played back at my school on a Macintosh computer. I'm thinking a DivX type codec, but for MOV files.

    Thanks

  2. Try MPEG-4...small file size with a good picture.QDesign is a good Audio codec too.

  3. Can't, it's got to be a quicktime MOV file, not AVI. The school has limited media playing capabilities, and they only play MOV files. I've tried AVI/DivX and it didn't work.

    Thanks for trying though

MPEG-4 is quicktime. It's apple's newest codecs. Check it out at http://www.apple.com/mpeg4

I suggest Sorenson. Even old versions of Quicktime will play it. The biggest problem is that you're looking to compress your files, but you said you don't want to lose any quality. That's not gonna happen. MPEG-1 can also be viewed by old Quicktime versions, but the compression is less than Sorenson, so you'll have a larger filesize.

  7. File size isn't as much of an issue, as long as I can fit it on a CD.

QT 6.3 has built in mpeg4. You won't be able to play it on computers with older versions of qt, just as you can't play back divx/mpeg4 avi files unless the codec is installed. Unless you put the codec/installer on the CD (and have permission to install it) you're stuck with lower quality video. Older computers simply don't have the capability to play back high quality video without new software!

Sorenson and mpeg1 are your best bets for universally playable video on machines with QT installed.

Of course, quicktime may update itself if you use QT with mpeg4 and your computers are on the internet. You may want to try it.

Whoa, on just a CD??? Use Motion JPEG-A if you just want it on a CD. It should play perfectly on both PCs and Macs. The filesize will be large, but it'll fit on a cd and have good quality. For playback you'll probably have to copy it to the hard-drive, but the quality will be excellent.

QT DV is also pretty good , QT animation is better , QT mpeg4 is ok for high compression , but i don't like it personally .. there are about 40 QT codecs (QT is a wrapper just like avi) ..

QT targa compressed is lossless and very high quality ..

Well it's only a 55 second clip, so it fit fine using the Sorensen compressor. Quality was excellent too (slider was set at like 80%). In the future, I'll probably have to save it in other ways to transport for larger movies.

    Thanks for all the help!
