I have an AVI file that was cratured in adobe premiere and when it check the properties of this file the resolution is something like 700x500 and when i convert it to DVD it goes down to like 600x400 and it looks pretty blocky i was using MainConcept MPEG encoder to convert my files it seems like the DVD format would be much better quality is there anything that i'm missing, any advice is greatly appreciated

You need to encode the video to DVD format, the burn it. Look in the DVD-R section in the top left and get your specs there.
