Bugster,
I'd rather send a polite PM to the offender if the error is a little one. "You really shouldn't use that word here...." etc.
Some people make an honest mistake, I don't think the first thing to do is "Report...."
How many of the reports have the Mod replying there does not seem to be anything wrong here?
Not ALL DL'd material is illegal.. Not ALL DVDs are released here first.
I certainly don't want the record for turning people in.
Some, of course, are so blatant that is the only option.

As long as this thread has ben thoroughly hijacked....
What about Fermented Apple cider?
Woodchuck cider made here is the States, Woodpecker imported from the UK (at least that's what it says).Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... Oh yeah american beer is shit
I am an aussie and i love my beer. Your beer taste like camel piss.
Our beer is the best, strongest, full flavour, puts hairs on your chest, makes you do stupid things like wrestle crocs and shag your best mates shiela in the back of a ute (Translation = have sexual intercourse with your best friends girl in the back of a truck i believe you call them )
You American's think you know beer, have a Victorian bitter also known as VB's vitamin B's..has been known to make even your american girls look .......alright.... it's the cheapest nastiest beer in the world after the second one your taste buds don't recognise it and bang your in flavour country
Other beers are James Boags (nice very refined even the rich girls love that one) I like a cartlon cold crown lager and anything with the title beer in it. I have european background so l love wine.....if a guy is a pub and is drink bicardi breesers he is a poof (not that there is anything wrong with that)How long could we maintain? I wondered. How long until one of us starts raving and jabbering at this boy? What will he think then?
If you like Tekno download one of my tracks

I think what he was refering to about the breezers is that in some clubs you want to know what you're drinkng. You want to see the cap come off the bottle, and know that nothing has fallen into your drink.

Austraaiiilllyyyaaa. Nearest spelling to the way you guys pronounce it, to our ears.
"Foster's. Australian for beer." Girl crushes the can on her forehead. "My kind of girl." There's an "Oink" in there someplace, too.
The good thing is it comes in a 40 ounce can, over here. 'Course, that's bad, too. If you're not sharing, you drink it fast, or you drink it warm.
How do the Aussies drink their beer? Warm or cold? Here, it's supposed to be about 38F, what, about 4C?
And the major Canadian import was, at one time, Molson's. "Mmmm, good vintage." "Yeah, Tuesday."
Which is about the same for any American beer. Started the batch day before yesterday, on the shelf today.
US beers typically run 4 1/2 to 5 % alcohol, in some states, Sunday sales were limited to "near beer", 3.2%. "Ice" beer is around 7 to 8%, have bought 1 case in my life, kicked me in the ass. It's the beer i drink, not the alcohol, drank the same number, got damn near blotto, didn't know till the next day what was wrong. No more!!! Funny thing is, more alcohol, lower price.
Sat Storm,
Bozhe moi!! Ouzo! I drank that near 40 years ago in Athens and Piraeus. Still makes my head hurt to think about it. I think it's supposed to be drunk like an aperitif, isn't it? Well, a bunch of young sailors on liberty never drink like that. Might be 3 months till next port call, so put 'em down.
In San Remo we started down the main street on one side, hit every drinking place, had locals treating, made it halfway back the other side, and I remember to this day crawling down the pier and up the gangplank onto the boat. I think I had to shitcan that white uniform.
Will, do our English friends still drink beers warm, or is that only for home produced, I mean Britain produced, beers? Do you still use "mulling irons"? "'Ere, lass, me beer's coolin' off."
Wine is good. But we don't make many "good" wines that taste any better than our "so-so" wines, so why pay the price? My youngest daughter's wedding took place in a winery, and they sold us the wine at 14 USD per bottle, fifths, as we call them, about 27 ounces, 4/5 of a quart, I guess 3/4 litre. All fancy flavored, strawberry, apple, etc. The few bottles of just plain grape wine I had to confiscate. Hey, I paid for it, I should have some prerogative.
I have a book about 50 years old, English, on making wine, mostly in 1 gallon batches, and you would not believe some of the recipes. Last night's supper veggie peels, thistles, potatoes, whatever. Never tried any. Going to have to.
To make this post comply with the newb thing, has anyone gone back 1 year to see if the same ??s are asked at the beginning of each school year? That would reinforce my earlier statement that a whole buncha kids have gotten new 'puters, maybe enough faster to want to try their hand at video. They have to be bored a little, as freshmen, maybe their first time away from Mom and Dad, feverishly looking for something to take their minds off their insecurities.
Just a thought.
Cheers,
George -
Cornucopia this means something else entirely in UK
Guys, you haven't lived until you've had Shiner Bock!
Go down to Austin, TX, watch the topless women at Barton Springs (used to could) and hear live guitarists of the likes of Stevie Ray Vaughan, with a Shiner in your hand. HeavenCorned beef is now made to a higher standard than at any time in history.
The electronic components of the power part adopted a lot of Rubycons. -

RabidDog,
Now I'm curious. Just what does "topless" mean in the UK.
Here in the US it means "without any clothing on the upper half of your body". Yeah, Austin is one of the few places in the US where it has been OK to do that, even within city limits.
Scott
(Austinite for 14 years 8) , emmigrant for 11 since) -
Topless probably means slightly underendowed in the chest department.
Almost forgot to add, man, I am glad to see the site back up!!! -
I believe he meant shiner, not topless. A shiner is a black eye.
-
flaninacupboard,
yes, I can see how you might get that. however, "shiner" means the same thing in the US. also, in the quote that RabidDog used (and not in the original) the word topless was in bold, so that's what I assumed he was referring to.
FWIW, Shiner is the brand name of the Spoetzel brewery in Shiner, TX. This is about as close to "Old World" beer as you can get and still be made in the "New World". (No judgement/preferences there, just using old terms). Great body, great aroma, great aftertaste.
Scott
p.s. I know this has mutated the thread somewhat, but I find this much more positive/upbeat than the original. -

Sure they can fumble around untill they feel where the key is and then turn it, and they can do the same for the pedals and gear shift. But once they get the car rolling they have absolutely no idea where they are heading
I see this with newbie computer owners all the time! Many think because they owned their system 6 months they are experienced computer users! Then I have to shoot them down by giving them a dos disk and tell them to scan for the virus in dos mode from C: prompt, and next time use an anti virus program! It is all over there head because it's not a windows point and click! They don't have a clue how to do it, so I have to lead them by the hand and show them. Now these same people are buying systems with burners??? You think DVD is bad for newbies, I still get bugged by local newbies about how do you burn a CD? Can you write over a comercail CD like you can TapesCan you use 12x CDr in a 32x burner, or a 32x CDr in a 12x burner or do the X's need to match??
Dohhh
As for the idea of a 5 day wait before posting I dought it would help, and probably could make it worse. I know I was looking around here for months before I registerd. Read alot!! Not only read the guides, I even printed several! THEN I bought my DVD burner!
Ok things did not go to well when I tried my first disk and I could not find my answer. So I registerd and tried to post, AWWWW, it was a 3 day wait before I could post!!!!
Needless to say that was nearly the worst 3 days of my life! Well maybe not, but it wasn't that good either!!
My big first newbie question, what are VOBS and how do I get them!!
Sure I read tons of guides and other stuff, but nothing really said VOB in it then that I was reading. Maybe I wasn't reading the right stuff, or maybe it was there yet?
Anyway, the point is, Although I read tons of guides and various posts and what nots and thought I knew how to make the first disk, I was totally WRONG and could not do it when I installed my burner! Then in the 3 day wait I tried so many WRONG things that did not work I was like a total newbie on the first visit here. I had myself so confused doing things that did not work I had to start all over at the very begining, and ask some sort of dumb newbie questions as if I never read anything yet.
Then I also found out my ATI AIW captures were not DVD compliant also because the MMC I was using only did 44,100 audio and I needed 48,000 audio. And that was one of my problems none of the authoring programs were working well too.
I think basically the newbies that don't read anything will just go away for the 3 or 5 day wait, then come back and post anyway the same questions they would have the first day. But those that have read like I did then can't do it and need help will just be confused even more by the time they get past the wait to post and ask what could be considered even more newbie questions.
This is a great site and has tons of usefull info and guides, but that in itself can be confusing also to a newbie. With so many tools available and various guides using different combinations of tools, and some tools not working on some systems for what ever reason, there is alot to be confused about.
I don't ripp DVDs yet though I will start sometime backing up our colection. SO with DVD2ONE, DVDSHRINK, ANYDVD, etc.. etc.. where would I start and with which tools?
Course there are many newer guides and most tools have been updated since I first came here or got interested in DVDr at all. So it should be easier to figure out, even for us newbies in that area if we read alittle first!!!
I think I first came here back around Nov 2002 or so (VCDhelp.com then)
even though I didn't sign up till this year sometime. LOTS of changes to be sure!
Great site and those of you doing guides and posting answers are doing a great job! THANKS
Oh yea, and my favorite beer is HOME BREW, though I don't drink anymore normally. Just when my friend has a fresh batch mature, I drink one or two then. Not a CHEAP beer, but a great one! We've tried several types, all great when done correctly. Only one I did not care for alot was too yeasty, most likely a brewing error, but it was still better than most comercail beers like BUD, Miller, etc... Just didn't want to hit the bottem of the bottle or mix it up. -
I wasnt going to post to this thread, but I have reconsidered.
I believe that what is missing in almost all the posts made by "newbies" is common courtesy.
The concept that help asked for is more forth coming then help demanded,
that a well written post is more effective than CAPS !!! and emoticons.
I suspect that many newbie posts are from underage youngsters looking for something free, guick and requiring little effort to do. i.e. they dont want to read the FAQs or search the how to acticles or read previous posts or follow the rules and AUPs.These posts are best ignored.
I have also noticed that many newbie posts degenerate into Ad Homonym
attacks. This should not be allowed to happen.
This is a very valuable information resource, therefore we must all conduct ourselves as though we appreciate it. -
WOW. I guess I was pretty lucky. I stumbled onto most of the right info from the start. I also made a lot of mistakes, and tried to correct them be myself. Most I was uble to figure out, after enough tries. I guess I look at it in a different way. And spent a lot of time and money trying different things. I alos had a different board to goto to cut my teeth. It was the Razzle DVC2 board. Never did get that thing to work with my hardware. But it gave me a lot of experience in making mistakes
Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they? -
Wow!!!
Third page, and the best post of all is overload's Sunday PM post. Basically," I read everything I could find while I waited to be allowed to ask a question, and still needed help."
Love it. One of the least egotistical posts I have ever seen on a "Newbie bashing" thread. Everyone else says they absorbed it all without asking any but the most esoteric questions, much as some of the older ones seemed to hint that they would prefer newbies not apply, we only want to talk expert to expert.
I think when Baldrick started this forum, the knowledge was not out there. It was developed, piece by piece, over the first year or so, and those first members actually did become experts.
Now we have guys who have been here 2 months bashing "newbies", because, "Hey, I read for 5 years before I joined, I coulda taught you guys how to do this."
I don't know how many times I gotta say, hey, you got a question popping up, either answer it, or skip it, don't get pissed because you've seen it a hundred times before. If you CAN help, hell's bells, give 'em an answer.
It doesn't cost you anything.

Thanks for the complement, at least that's the way I took it as being meant.
Yea I did alot of reading and searching before I even signed up and tried to post. I found the 3 day wait to be annoying for 2 reasons though. As well as I could not get help I needed because I could not post, I also found many posts asking questions I knew the answers to that I could not post answers to either.
I still consider myself a newbie in many areas, like ripping. Just downloaded DVDSHRINK tonight. Thought I had it already, but geuss not since I could not find it. Anyway I am ripping only my second DVD tonight! And the reason I am doing this one is to find an answer to a problem someone else is having. Last one (only one) I ripped was before I even had a burner, and it didn't work to well. I think it was smart ripper I used on that other one.
Although I do see Thaynes point also,
Quote:
It doesn't cost you anything.
Except time.... Hmmm, go get another beer or help the newbie with the attitude problem... He he guess which one I pick!
I mean it's great you guys offer all this help for free in the first place. It's not like its something you have to do. But it is great you will share your knowledge and experience, and take your time to help those that ask for some help. You guys could just say the heck with it and go burn some disks instead of using the time to help those of us that need help. So it bugs me too when the ones come along and think this is something that is owed to them just because they bought a system with a burner they don't have a clue how to use yet.
I mean it doesn't hurt to be polite, and maybe even say thanks once in a while too. After all THEY owe it to you guys giving all the help, answering all the questions etc...
Not the other way round.
Like I've said a time or two, and will again, thanks for the help and the great site! -

Hello, I am a forum newbie.
I thought I'd jump in and say that I have never had to post in any of the forums simply because I have found answers to every question I've ever had by searching and trying. I've been using the site for, well, I just looked and my original bookmark was created March 2001.
I can easily understand how frustrating it can be for newbies to want answers handed to them, but it's impossible to know how hard they've tried before asking. Many don't try at all. Some try for a bit, then give up. Some try hard, surely. But since there's no way of knowing, it's pretty much a given that they should all be treated similarly - a helpful link or a little bit of instruction. Remember the old saying about teaching a man to fish...
Thanks for your time. Now I'll probably encounter some freakishly odd problem with a bit of software and have to ask for help...Steven Hill at http://shillpages.com -
Thayne,
I am probably gonna leave soon, as I only have 1 beer left, and haet to drink wine on top of beer. ( Has a tendency to make me, how shall I put it, drunk?)
Man, you have a dilemna: Beer; Help. That IS tough. Think I'll go get that last one and ponder it a little further. Or go get a little glass and stay up for a while. It's 3 AM here.
Overload,
Absolutely, it's a compliment.
Few will admit they didn't pick this stuff up with their mother's milk."I read....X months, made a perfect DVD copy, am only here to give you the benefit of my whole 2 months expertise. I may just keep you from making a boo-boo.."
I'm sorry, I went to see my 3 month old grandson this afternoon, didn't know it was US Grrandparent's Day till I was there a couple hours. So, I'm still talking like I have my 3 month old in my arms. Well, actually, my kid wants me to teach him Serbo-Croat, which she refused to learn, so ya morem vami razgorovit po srpski. Ako ti ne rezumish, too bad. Learn.
Seriously, do learn a foreign language. And learn it well, not just the typical Spanish conjugations, etc. It will help you.

When I see a "thank you" at the end of the post it makes me wanna help, but when I see "If you don't have anything constuctive to say F@%k off, I refuse to help them, and like poking at them....
