Beer is sold strictly by advertising.
I get it here for $20 a case at Costco. Bud runs about $15 a case"Terminated!" :firing: -
Oh, jaysus, the horse piss I drink costs 8 bucks, 10 for the 30 pack.
I'd go broke, man!!!
We can't buy it at Costco or Sam's. PA has PLCB licensed beer distributors.
Only place to get it would be a "gourmet" 6 pack outlet, bars, that also sell to go beer, and "gourmet" because they carry off brands, out here that is what it would be.
I have to agree with some of the above. I have always taken the other side, prior to recent posts, but some of the new ones seem to have not read "anything".

Like that guy that said to use FLASH for a menu. I can kind of see how he would think that. DVD menus are very FLASH-like in their appearence. Oh, what a surprise.
Another fortnight goes by and there's yet another post about stupid newbies.
This must be the most talked about topic on this site, barr none and yet it not only keeps getting repeated in off topic/feedback but guess what?
The problem never goes away.
People are different, it's what makes this diverse planet so wonderful and horrific at the same time.
Some are keen to learn and will read first, some need a nudge to get them started and some are lazy.
This isn't a new philosphy, it's been around longer than gmatov
(sorry I've haven't got around to mailing the photo's of my little 'un yet George, things hectic here!)

I ain't got nothing against newbies, even the idiot ones sometimes.
Heck I'm still one myself. Well ok, 2 actually. Sometimes a newbie, other times just plain an idiot.
I mean I do searches here and other places too, but I geuss I just have a bad choice of keywords most the time as I seldom really find what I am looking for. BUT, I do find everythng I am not looking for!
Many important keywords don't seem to work, and I even have gotten messages back telling me so from the board! DVD & ram & rom search returns a result of "Keywords must be more than 3 letters".
So I get anything and everything that applies to "Burning"! CDs, DVD, FLAGS, if it's here I get it! and with 400 messages returned for the search I can't read em all, though probly my answer is in there somewhere.
At least I try though, and sometimes I find it too! Probably alot of newbies have the same problem. And I have only been on the net for maybe 4yrs, maybe more!
And I had a BBS years ago!
Not complaining mind you, it's my fault if I can't think up useful search phrases to find what I am looking for. I have that problem alot with searches everywhere, not just here!
Now when you get idiots like that guy wanting to protect his stolen disks so his friends could not make copies, well THAT WAS AN IDIOT! Not that he didn't know how, or that he asked about it, but his attitude from his second post and beyond! And his reason, for protecting HIS work of ripping them! What a jerk!
And think about it, how good a friend is he anyway? Sounds like he steals the stuff himself, then is probably trying to sell it to his FREINDS or rent it to them maybe?? A guy like that gives piracy a bad name(joke)
And I just got done recording for a week, capturing it, minor editing, made a DVD R master, then about 9 DVD R copies and 4 VHS tapes all for free! No charge for anything (I even paid for the disks and tapes), just for friends, and a couple of them I never even met before, but they were in the play so I gave them the same disks I gave my friends that were in it!
And he wants to protect his work of "RIPPING"
Ha ha ha
Not that I am bragging or anything. I could have never done that myself if it were not for what I learned here and all the help I have gotten here!
Filming the play with the camcorder I could have done, then been totally lost on everything else!
Even the fact I bought a DVD burner begining of the year was because of what I learned here first! This was VCDHELP site when I first came, though I think it changed to DVDRHELP before I started posting.
And even though I did captures and editing back in the days of windows 3.1, I knew nothing about mpeg1 and 2 and many other capturing things for modern day use like VCD or DVD!
This is a great site, and great people to be offering all this help!
SO thanks! Thanks a million.
Keep up the great work, many of us DO apreciate it! -
Now, Will,
If you read past the first 3 or 4 posts, you know it kinda veered off to should you drink expensive beer, or should you drink cheap beer.
You must have skimmed and said"Oh, No, Not another Newbies post!!!"
I've seen a pic of Danny, his mustache and goatee look just like yours. We know whose boy that is! Doesn't he fidget when you try to get it to 4 hairs wide??
So, what do you think, should you buy the"best" beer, as per advertisement, or whatever you like, no matter how cheap? Now, I know you are not going to go to "Keeping Up Appearances", and condemn whatever brand Hyacinth's brother-in-law drinks.
Where the hell have you been anyhow? It's been dead around here. I think
all the kids have gone back to school..
Personally, I was away for a 3 day weekend at the Lake, got in 1 game of golf with my #2 daughter, 7 year old g'son riding with us.
Is your caravan a tag-a-long, or a motor home, self propelled?
Mine is a 27 foot 1974 model trailer, stored a 1/4 mile from the place I always go to . 1/2 hour to drag it across the road and all set up.
Cheers,
George -
We've all been newbies in this (and every other we've ventured into) business. I'm sure each of us have made a question that was utterly silly in the eyes of those more experienced in the field.
It's easy to get irritated by the ignorants, 'specially if they refuse to read guides, demands to be spoon fed, has a STUCK CAPS LOCK KEY, thinks using words like "da kool dood" makes them less of a newbie, somehow got the idea that this is a site for movie pirates etc...
But before you start (rightfully) bashing them on their little heads, take a deep breath, try figure out what the moron really wants and politely help them - if nothing else by pointing out that there are such things as guides, howtos and Forum search to be used before asking, please let go of the shift key, read the forum rules...
By doing so, there's a much better chance they'll grow up and in turn take to helping those even more newbie than they are, leaving us who has forgot what it was like to be young and a newbie to discuss the deeper meaning of Life, Universe and Everything.
To make it short: Allow everyone the benefit of the doubt for a while. Incorrectibles will pretty soon spontaneously evaporate anyway.

Will,
The last time I drank Bud was at my oldest daughter's wedding 15 years ago, 3 7 ounce bottles over about 4 hours. God, man, I walked around like Napolean all night. Felt like my gut was going to burst. Kept going out to the porch to try to fart, couldn't, tried to burp, couldn't.
One miserable SOB. I hurt, man!!! Had one can since, and regretted it.
But I digress.
You must be kidding! In Europe, or far Western Europe, with all the great beers available, you drink Budweiser? A piss poor imitation of a beer? One which has a daily production of probably a million barrels a day?
What's a 24 can case cost, over there? If it's anything like the prices of our prescription drugs, half the cost in Canada, that might explain it, get the incremental sales, you've already paid for the advertisements at home, if you can sell another case for 2 bucks, all gravy.
Ah Well.
Talk later.
Going to bed, it's 5 AM here.
Cheers,
George -
I don't like beer! But give me a bottle of RUM and I'm all set. The good stuff please, not that cheap crap. I don't drink often enough to have to buy the cheap stuff. So when I do drink, I want it to be good!

I love Beer, but this summer, I'm more into Bacardi Breezers. About the same alcohol and price, totally different refreshing approach and for a strange reason my stomach is more friendly to Breezers than Beers...
Anyway, there are 2 kind of Newbies: The ones who want to learn to copy stuff and the ones who want to learn this scene as a hobby. The second ones are minority, but there are the ones I (and I believe most of the forums members here) like to help.
The only way to avoid the first ones, is with quality. If this forum has quality, soon or later only the serious newbies, the ones who want to learn as a Hobby gonna stay here.
You see, those who want simply to learn copying and stuff, they gonna learn it fast and soon. There are plenty sources for those matters on the net today. Those who wants to learn more for this subject, also have other alternatives (doom9 forum, divxdigest, etc). But those who want to learn all this as a hobby, for their own stuff, for their own joy, well...
The true advance alternatives around are very few. VCDhelp is one of them for sure, if not the leading one! -
I can't drink those alcopop things, they give me indegestion!

Drinking Bud in Europe is kinda of a sin, coz we do have a lot better beers over here than in the US..stronger ones too. You cant really go wrong with a pint of Stella (or Wifebeater as its refered to 'op north')
Im sure Bud is full of chemicals coz it dont half give you a headache. Im quite partial to an alcopop now n again esp Smirnoff Ice Black but Barcadi Breezers are best left to the girls... -

....I can drink far more bud than I can anything else. so it can't be that strong.
I can't drink much stella, I'm not afraid to admit I find it a little too strong.

Cheap beer is, as you say, akin to drinking piss. Personally i'll go for Guiness or tanglefoot, but my main drink is vodka (i'm out, again!)
I was under the impression that american bud and and british bud are entirely different, no?
I'm too quite partial to a smirnoff ice, or a blue wkd. But vodka and baileys on the rocks is still the measure to beat.
I thought "wife beater" was a name applied to stella to take the piss out of guys oop norf, not actually used up there!! -
Since I leave in a Country which has sun about 11 months a year (and a beach for swim is everywhere near you...), drinking is more related to outgoing life.
- In my home, I gonna drink wine (of course).
- When I go Clubbing (Every Friday and Saturday night) I gonna drink Breezers. It is the only thing Safe to drink at clubs/discos and the same time dancing all night as I do (typical local 30 year old ...)
Just for your informations, for us the Mediterenians (Greece, Italy, Spain, mediterenian arabs, southern French, Turks....), dancing is a part of life also, it is not a gey / drug thing as marketing wants to present in US/ UK for example.
- If I have to go with olders or friends not so much in clubbing / dancing, I can easily go to any seaside tavern and drink Ouzo and Tsipouro.
- When I'm hagging with my friends weekdays afternoon / evening, then it is only beer time. Erginger, Paulaner when I want to drink something really tastefull, Soporo or Cama Culpa when I want to drink something lightfull, Lucifer or something exotic from Belgium when I want to drink something heavy (bear with 12% of Alcohol) and when I only have commercial choices, I prefer Haineken or Lowerdraw.
- When I'm hagging out with my girlfriend or I'm with couples (boooring...) I use to drink coctails. I love "Golden Cadilac" for example... But since not many know how to make good coctails, a "Pina Colada" is always a classic.
I also enjoy a lot greek iced coffe, called "Frape".
Sometimes, when I'm on parties or on a club with good barmen (and "clean" drinks) I might drink something like Southern Confort with Coke or -my favorite those times- Sabuca.
You see, for us in Hellas (Greece), drinking is not forbitten at any age like in other countries. I remember my first drink was when I was 12, while I remember my dad give me taste wine until I remember myself (and hated it! Only recently start drinking wine). So, for us is a part of life. And don't imagine that we drinking all the time. No. We drink once a day the evening. Tonight bear, tommorow coctails, the day next ouzo on a tavern and so on. And this is oximoron, because drinking here is totally free and the alchocholics are really very - very few, while on countries like UK and US, which the laws are so much restricted for this matter, alchocholism is a huge problem!
Also, we don't devine drinks to female and male ones. I mean there are some male and female ones for sure, but drinking a Breezer doesn't make you a Gey or something and drinking Beer make you a Man. Those things are silly... Those are marketing images created in north - west europe and America for obvious reasons...
Also, I remind you that breezer ain't nothing that a coctail of white Rum, soda and juice (orange, apple, lemon or appricot).
Smirnof Mule somehow **** up my stomach, I never understood why, so I avoid it....
All this converstion make me wish for a Breezer now... I'm going to get one, from the store next door .... -
First, on the topic of newbies. What happened to trying something. I love this forum and the guides here, but I've used them to perfect or improve the methods I figured out by trying something first. What about before the Internet was the big thing it was. I remember looking through stacks of old computer magazines to find that one tip of how to make a better boot disk to play my games and freeing up the 640K of DOS memory.
It's all about experimentation. Just take things a step at a time and reverse what you did if it doesn't work. You might mess something up, but more than likely it won't be permanent, and you'll learn from that mistake.
On to the beer. Haven't had a Bud since high school. Luckily once I hit college I fell in with the right crowd and learned to love the imports. I agree that Sierra Nevada Pale is a beautiful beer, but cannot compare to my top 3 of: Newcastle, Boddingtons and Guinness. Man, I wish I lived over there.
I was also lucky that many friends were avid home-brewers and you've not had anything as tasty as a good home brewed beer.------------------------------------------------

Can someone from Germany send me a fresh case of Oktober-fest??

Guys, you haven't lived until you've had Shiner Bock!
Go down to Austin, TX, watch the topless women at Barton Springs (used to could) and hear live guitarists of the likes of Stevie Ray Vaughan, with a Shiner in your hand. Heaven!
Back on topic. Why doesn't the site just implement a test to noobies before they can post? Yeah, I know there wasn't one when I was a noobie, but I would have taken it (and hopefully passed) if there had been. Not too much to ask. Baldrick, is that a lot of work on your end?
Scott -
I think a test might be too much, but how about if they have less than 10 posts (not that I have as many as most of you guys, but I lurked for a year before I became active and now know half way what I speak of), they automatically get take to a search page or a page with newbie questions answered (What's best program, media, store, blah blah to use) and stuff like that.
Just a thought.------------------------------------------------
