  1. I originally posted this message on the DVD writer section, then I noticed that you aren't supposed to post burning questions there (sorry moderators!). Anyway, I think this might be the more appropriate forum for this question:

I have a Sony DRU-510 (1.0c) and am having trouble creating DVD-R discs. The machine is a Dell 2.2GHz Win_XP Pro 256MB, 120MB HDD and should have plenty of horsepower to handle what I'm trying.

Formatting, and writing to DVD+RW is no problem, but when trying to convert old analog tapes to DVD-R I get system crashes. I'm using Sonic MyDVD (ver 4) software bundled with the Sony drive, the process seems to work fine as far as reading in the analog source and saving a temp file to the HDD, but when beginning to write to the DVD-R I get a blue screen with a message that there is a problem with dvd_2k.SYS. The system hangs and only a hard restart will bring it back. Any help would be appreciated.

  2. Hey ed-in-nj, do you have another burning software still installed besides myDVD? I had the same problem with Roxio still installed; then I uninstalled MyDVD and Roxio -- then reinstalled MyDVD and lost the error with DVD_2K.SYS. I running a Dell 2350 with 1.8 GHz P-IV 256MB. MyDVD is v4.5. HTH...

  3. Yes, the problem was indeed other burning software. Specifically Roxio CD creator.

The DirectCD.exe background program was causing the crash. Either disabling directcd.exe via the process tab of the <cntl><alt><del> dialog or completely unistalling Roxio cures the problem.
