short clip on the internet

i want to upload some small movies onto the internet.

I was just wondering what format i should put them in, now i would like the file's to be as small as possible but also remain good quality. I was thinking DivX but then i thought most people will be using wmp and that isnt compatible.

can anyone recommend a good format to use?

Wmv is usually the way to go. If you must use mpeg, tell your clients to download the files and play them then. Use mpeg-1 if you do go this way, as media player has few problems with them.
