  1. Hi,

I have DVD X Copy express & a 1 day old IO Magic dual format drive (see topic for model). I purchased the drive & some Memorex DVD+R (4x) disks.

I tried to back up "the hunted" & the program appeared to go flawlessly. When I tried to view the backup it my machine kept hanging (using explorer & the 4x +R disks).

I ran out & picked up some TDK DVD-R disks (2x) & was able to backup the movie & it works on everything but my laptop (2 PC's & 1 stand alone DVD player).

I have not tried to burn the DVD-RW disk I have yet & I have not tried to burn anything data wise to either format.

    Do 2x DVD's (+ or _) work better than 4x?

I have a bunch of movies & mainly want to use the DVD drive I purchased for backup purposes (data / movies).

Is there a known issue with DVDXcopy express & the Optorite drive & +R? Should I return this & spend a few more bucks on a different brand drive?

The system I am using is a AMD XP1900 with 512 megs of ram & WinXP Pro (not overclocked at all). When I am using DVDXCopy express I make sure nothing is running in the background. My DVD drive has firmware 2.15.

I also have Nero 5.5 installed (not used yet though).

Any advice would be helpful (while I can still potentially return this drive). Oh if the advice is to get something else (brand name) please feel free to give a recommendation.

    Thanks,
    Rich

    Answer NO, they shouldn't.

What DVD Player software were you trying to view it in?

  3. The -R disks seem to be viewable with Power DVD on my desktop, laptop & standalone.

The +R (4x) isnt viewable at all, either through power dvd or just looking to see if there are files on the +R disk in Explorer.

You should not be having the problems with those media. I burn both brands which don't have such issues. I saw the IO Magic drive in sundays flyer. Can't speak for it, I have 2 dual format Sony's and a Pioneer A6. I would try Verbatim and Fuji to see if they have same issues. I saw something about the Optorite drive and DVD X Copy. Check their Web site at 321 Studios for your model. Make sure you try the other media. It could be an issue with the media and the burner. I run the same app on a P-4 2.8 and have never had a problem with players or DVD software.
