  1. hi,
i'm new to this vcd burning and am getting confused with all the settings for tmpg. once you pick what you want converted the settings, where you choose 29.9... fps, NTSC, what quality you want etc. it shows the picture in the how to convert section, but that's using PAL settings. I want to be able to play them on my "stand alone" dvd player. i've been having problems picking the right ones, last time i burned one the movie played fine on my computer but once it was on the dvd player it player in slowmotion. i'm just wondering what settings you use to convert so they turn out good. thank you so much, sorry is this has already been asked but i couldn't find anything. thanks again

From one newbie to another, the easiest way is to use TMPG's predefined settings.

Start up TMPG, specify the input/output files, and instead of mucking around with the settings, click the Load button, and select "VideoCD (NTSC)."

There are limitations with this setting, but the resulting MPG file should play in your standalone DVD player.

Note that when you burn the disk, you MUST indicate that you're making a Video CD. If you burn the MPG in the usual "data" mode, it won't work. Not all burning software supports Video CD burning.

Also, when you burn the video keep the speed down. Even though I have a 12x burner, I burn Video CDs at 4x or less.

Finally not all media works with all players. I had to hunt around before I found a CD-R media brand that worked. You may or may not be as lucky as me. If you're experimenting, work with short video clips, and use CD-RWs. You might also look at the user comments (not just the stats) for your DVD set-top model on this site.
