  1. OK I had WMP9 on my computer..> BIG MISTAKE... then deleted it and got WMP7.1 back and the encoder. So I try to encode now and I cant. It comes up with....

"Cannot find a valid source plugin to support specified source. (0xC00D1B71)

It may have an unsupported or inalid format or ma be currupted.

Enter a different file name before continuing."

And I cant do anything! Anyone have any idea what to do. How can I completely destroy WMP9 from registry and codec. I think thats whats messing everything up. Any ideas. please help thx

you may have made a big mess of your system at this point ..

your best bet may be to re-install wm9 (if even possable) ...

use graphitedit and see what you are missing -- but it may be hopeless mess ..

  4. OK, I'm in the same nightmare mode as you, trying to get back Windoze Media Encoder 7.1 and getting that stupid error message every time I try to load in a file.

Closest I've come to a clue is that installing encoder 9 somehow jinxes the registry for version 7.1.

Someone suggested I try editing my registry file, and, though I no longer get that error messge, I get the "program is shutting down" and a Doctor Watson message every time I try to load a file.

So, I don't recommend you try this (editing the registry).

What I ended up doing was going back and re-installing encoder 9, which, though it's as cludgy as a bag of dirt, at LEAST allows me to encode video.

Also, in all this frustration, I came across encoder 8, which, though it is command line with no gui, it's possibly the best version of the encoder I've ever used.

Hoping this response helps. This thread is WAY old, so...
