I want to make a DVD-R from clips extracted from several music DVDs. I don’t have a problem extracting and combining the different segments, but I don’t like the way they make the transition between clips. Is there a way to make the beginning of each segment fade-in and the end fade-out, without having to decompress everything to avi for edition?

You could do it in AVISynth
Ejoc's CVD Page:
DVDDecrypter -> DVD2AVI -> Vobsub -> AVISynth -> TMPGEnc -> VCDEasy
DVD:
DVDShrink -> RecordNow DX
Capture:
VirualDub -> AVISynth -> QuEnc -> ffmpeggui -> TMPGEnc DVD Author
