change subtitle language on dvd

hi, i have an dvdr with english and french subtitle,menu and extra's.

is there a way to put dutch subtitles in it???
or otherwise, can i change the english subtitle into dutch???
and also can i still keep the menu and extra's then???
i've read my eyes out looking for something about that, but nobody seems to know or doesn't tell???

please, please help me with this !!!!!!!

This can be done. I would not call it a difficult process, but you need several programs to make it work. Also note that DVD Videos use a file structure, not a file format. Hence, if you add a third subtitle track you'd have to re-author the menu (ie. the whole disc) to have a button to select it. OR manually select the subs with the remote. You could replace the english subs with dutch, and then just select english from the menu as an another choice.

Here's an outline of the process:

1. Rip DVD to HD
2. Demux VOB/VTS of interest to m2v, ac3, subtitle streams. Also run chapterXtractor.
3. Re-author VTS with new subtitle stream
4. Splice new VOBs into original DVD rip
5. Run IFOUpdate to fix/update all IFOFiles
6. Burn new DVD

you can skip the CCE steps as you'll aready have the m2v file from step 2. The real problem is the re-authoring step. I only know of a few programs that can author subtitles: DVD Maestro, Scenarist, Reel DVD, Adobe Encore and IFOEdit. The first two cost ~$30k/ea. The next two cost ~$550/ea. IFOEdit is free. Most people use IFOEdit. IFOEdit only accepts subtitles in the *.sup format. So you'll need to convert you subs to that format.

Subtitle sync can be an issue as well. To help sync up your subtitles take a look at: http://www.doom9.org/subtitle_guides.htm You can find programs to convert subtitles from one format to antoher at doom9 as well. You might need to use more than one program/converison, often you can convert to SRT and then use SRT2SUP.

Let me know how it works out. Again I have DVD Maestro which makes the whole process much easier (vs. IFOEdit subtitle authoring). There are a lot of steps but it's pretty easy once you do it a few times.

What I mostly do is capture my old japanese LDs to the HD, convert SSA scripts to BMP files, and author DVDs with english subtitles. Nicer than genlocking the video and add hardsubtitles to a S/VHS backup.

well, it worked!!!
i demuxed the m2v and ac3 with dvd decrypter
then i used srt2sup to make the subtitle
then with ifoedit i authored a new dvd, and then did the trick with ifoupdate.
worked fine,skipped through the movie and everything syncs and it seems that the whole movie is on it(i see the end titles)
but........
the original movie is 1h26m56sec
and the new movie is 1h09m50sec, what happend?????
every time when i author the new files into a dvd the movie is 1h09min50sec??i keep missing 17 minutes.
and when i multyplex the m2v and the ac3 with tmpgenc, i'll get an mpeg movie that is 1h26min56 sec, so the m2v must be correct??

it,s freeking me out!!!!!! does somebody knows the answer to this???

Just guessing but the frame rate difference between NTSC (29.97) and Film (23.976) for your movie is 17 minutes.

Does the movie play the full 1h26m56s but shows the wrong time code in the player?
