  1. Hi to all. I am going to get a capture card in the very near future. And, I was just wondering what would be the best input for a LD player? I am leaning toward composite but the card that I am looking at also has a S-video input. I would like to hear some of your input on this.

S-video provides significant better image than composite, so...

Buy one with S-video in/out. Some cards are packed with RCA to S-Video (or vice-versa) adapters, but if it is not the case, you can buy them separatelly (very cheap).

    Good luck!

  3. Just to confirm, S-video is much nicer. If your LD player does not have s-vid out it won't matter much as you may be converting to vcd anyway.

Usually, but in the case of LD, that's not necessarily so.

By design, the video signal of LD is composite in nature, and it would have to be broken up into the two separate components (Y and C) for S-Video output. Sadly, all but the most expensive Pioneer players did a slipshod job of splitting the signal so that you'd be better off using the composite signal in the first place.

Having said that, the signal will be incredibly stable, the absolute best composite source you can find.
