Okay, I read that the best ASPI to use was the one with NERO. The how-to guide said just to download NERO, even the trial would work. Well I am a die-hard FREEWARE kind of guy, so I didn't want to do that. I could download the Adaptec ASPI but I never had any luck with that, plus I have heard similiar problems with other people.
Go HERE to download Nero ASPI Driver 2.0.1.50. It is a .DLL file. Just copy it over to your folder CDRDAO folder under the vcdeasy folder. And boom, the Cdrdao version box at the bottom of vcdeasy is filled in and it should recognize you CD/DVD burner. It did for me!
In case this is redundant information, I apologize. I searched before I posted but didn't find this information.

This information including links to the official Nero ASPI package is on the VCDEasy site at http://www.vcdeasy.org/modules.php?name=_Guides&id=ASPI

  3. I wouldn't say it's the best, but it works for a lot of people. But IIRC, that's only for Win2K or XP. (Which you really should get ...)

Just use the approach in the first post. By the way, if you're wary of random links, it goes to ftp://ftp6.nero.com/wnaspi32.dll - so you know you're getting the real deal. Maybe try just using the Nero.com link, eh? Once in a while it's on the fritz, then you can use the mirror.

If that doesn't work for you, or you have 95/98/ME, see Bart's ASPI page.

oddbod, all that vcdeasy.org link says is ... install Nero to get the ASPI. That's way more cumbersome than is necessary, it turns something easy into something hard. And if you uninstall Nero, it seems to take the ASPI with it, or did when I tried it.

I've written the author, he doesn't really seem to get how that's a really lame approach, or that Nero wouldn't have the link up if they didn't want people to use it. The approach the poster here describes is the right one
