  1. Hi there,

I've looked through the forums a bit, and I haven't found any similar questions as to mine, so I'm going to go ahead and ask it here (hopefully I didn't just gloss over a previous explanation, if so I apologize).

Anyway, I am fairly new to the whole (S)VCD scene, and I downloaded TMPGEnc to convert a few AVI's. It worked flawlessly the first 5 times I used it. Perfect results everytime. Then, suddenly, it went horribly wrong.

Whenever I try to go into the Noise Reduction area, I get an error that reads: TMPGEnc has caused an error in KERNEL32.DLL and it shuts down. I have no idea why it suddenly started doing this, as I have not downloaded anything new, or deleted anything from my computer since the last time that it worked flawlessly. I regular check for viruses, so I know that that isn't the culprit.

Also, if I forego the Noise Reduction option and proceed to start the encode, the program will crash after about 2 seconds.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

    TY

Since you are a starter, I recommend you exploit the forum's search options. Tmpgenc crashing as you describe is a common problem and lot's of related postings are there.

Here's one (that might help you):

    https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=167715

I found it by making a search using the two keywords:

    Tmpgenc crash

and quite a few postings come up. Don't waste your time browsing in the forum listings to find postings. Way too many to find what you are looking for.

And, to the point, I have had the same problem and thought I'd reinstall windows. Before doing this, I removed whatever I could in Add/Remove programs - that was garbage. Typically, the cause is an ill-behaved codec or a bad combination of codecs that can work fine each on their own.
The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.
