  1. Hey guyz, is there any other way to convert wmv to mpeg. I know Tmpgenc does convert wmv. But the output mpeg files seem to have problems after converting the wmv files in Tmpgenc. Only the first few minutes of the wmv file have sound, after that the audio disappears. Sometimes, Tmpgenc converts only a little bit of the file. I know of another way in which i have to convert the wmv file to avi through Stoik Video Converter and after that convert the file to mpeg through Tmpgenc. But this is really a very painstaking and long process. Another way is to convert the files in Nero. But Nero's built-in converter is pathetic, the quality is very bad. So, is there any other way ?

In the past I used ASFTools to convert the WMV to AVI and then to MPEG-2 with Tmpgenc. But once I realized that Tmpgen can do it in a single pass, with resizing and smoothing at the same time, I dropped the use of ASFTools. And I never had audio/video sync problems.

Perhaps the WMV files you have are badly encoded. Try viewing them on Windows Media Player. Once the playback starts, seek with the locator bar to, say, midway down the clip. If the video can resume there and audio remains in sync, then you have a strange problem. But my bet is that it won't and you will either fail to seek or playback will be very delayed and audio will be out of sync.

Again, such badly encoded video, I've been able to correct with ASFTools. Convert them to AVI first and then feed them to Tmpgenc.
The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.
