  3. Sorry, edited. While it is not impossible to go from DVD to VHS, there would be a lot of work involved and the output quality will not be all that great.

I thought I read one thing, but it was actually another. Sorry.

I am not sure why you would want to do this but it is possible with a lot of work. You will need a video card with t.v output. First you would have to convert the dvd to a mpeg or avi ( divx or xvid). Hook up the output on your video card to the vcr. Play your avi or mpeg in your media palyer and make the display full screen. Hit record on the vcr. Quialty will de degraded on the vhs compaired the the orginal dvd but it will work.

Does not really take a lot of work. Just installing certain devices can defeat macrovision. Like this one:

This is not hard. Hook up DVD player to VCR. May require a TBC.

The TBC is for VHS output which has sloppy timing. The DVD
player or computer will be rock solid as its timing is derived from
    a crystal.

The only problem here would be possible Macrovision. If you dont
want to buy a $50 Macrovision thing you could rip the DVD without
    macrovision and:
    1. Play it to the VCR if your video card has TV out
    2. Burn that to a DVDr and play it into the VCR with the DVD player
