  1. I'm doing a matrix parody for school, and i was wondering how I could create the matrix downscrolling code used in the opening of the movies. I would just rip it from the movie and use it in my media tech class, but problem is it has to be original footage (especially if entered in a local contest). So does anyone know how I could create this? I have Premiere, After Effects, and Photoshop to work with.

I've searched for some tutorials on it online and the one that I found, the page won't load due to the site "exceeding its bandwidth". If someone could link me to a working tutorial, i'd appreciate it.

    Thanks everyone!

DV Magazine had a tutorial for doing that kind of footage in their Motion Graphics column, but it was a couple of years ago.

Look for Chris & Trish Meyer's colum, and see if they have it archived on the website.

  4. They did infact have an archive, but it wasn't a complete archive (with every month), instead it was only select months. Didn't look like they had that tutorial you were talking about.

    Thanks for trying though!

Unfortunately, I do not have access to Vegas. A script that would do it for me would be pretty sweet though... lol. Regardless, i'd like to take a look, do you have a link to that site with the script?

This is what i've started thinking. I could create lines of the "matrix code" in photoshop, add some glow filters to get it to look right. Then maybe load it in premiere to get it to scroll... if this is even possible

you need HasciiCam for live streaming ascii video .. same idea for canned ascii video (which is pretty wild) ... do a search on google for info ..

also http://ascii.dyne.org had some info and software , but it seems hacked right now ...

yea -- me at many forums including DMM and sonic foundry, main concept, 3D Gm and creative cow as BJ_M , other forums and IRC under different nicks ..

yeah, I've seen the Hasciicam and have been driving myself nuts for the past few days trying to figure this out.

I don't actually want to stream anything - I want to take an avi file and convert it to a ascii-video avi file. Everything I've found is for streaming / java applet action, not video fx applications.

(well, I take that back - I found one page talking in really, really general terms about how to mimic this in AfterEffects, but it wasn't very forthcoming about how to do it...)

I don't particularly want to set up a linux box with a video in and video out, simply to use it as one giant effects generator... is there any other way?

  9. For anyone interested...
This site JUST put up a tutorial on how to do a Matrix code effect using Premiere. I haven't tried it out yet, but it looks like what I originally wanted to do (after some tweaking). You can check it out here:
