  1. Hi all,

I recently batch converted my DV home movies with Canopus Procoder using its DVD quality MPEG2 template. The result was a set of m2p files which I can view on players like WMP, but if I try to convert them to SVCD, programs like DVD2SVCD (tmpgenc or cce) just laugh at me and kick sand in my face...

I get that its a mpeg format, but if anyone can tell me what an m2p file is and how i can make the conversion to mpg (DVD/SVCD or VCD quality) I'd be grateful bc that way I wont have wasted 11 hours worth of conversions!

    TIA for any replies

  2. If you used the standard DVD mpg2 template in canopus then the files are already in DVD mpg2 format. Your authoring program (i.e. Ulead MF) should accept them with no problem. No need to convert them. Just load them into your authoring program as you would an mpg file.

TMPGE DVD author will accept the program stream from Procoder no problems.....Nero does not accept them, even after u rename them to a MPG.

However Nero does accept TMPGE encodes....but the result is not as good as Procoder

  6. You can run the M2P-file through TMPGEnc's MPEG Tools and multiplex it with a new header (like SVCD). Output to a MPG-file and you're done.

The solution is really easy. Just rename .m2p to .mpg. It is actually a mpeg2 program stream file type (same as mpg from tmpgenc) but Procoder use it's own file extention...

Thanks Ronnie. I also need to learn how to change the file extention from the one Procoder outputs, to one Nero will accept. Can you please explain how thet extention is changed. I use win XP.

    Thanks in advance,
    Jeff

Um...Am I reading that question right???
From Windows Explorer or My Computer, find the file you want to change the extension of. Right-click the file and choose "Rename". Then simply rename the file to whatever you want.
Or do you mean, "How do I instruct Procoder to output a different extension to begin with?"

If windows isn't displaying the file extensions then do this:

Open up your folder- Click on Tools, then Folder Options, Then be sure to remove the checkmark next to "Hide extensions for Known file types" and all your file extensions should be seen. Then you can change them.

Are you sure Nero will not accept them after they are renamed? What about renaming them mpa rather than mpg? You are the firstb one I have seen say that Procoder encodes will not work with Nero.

Why do you have to be so nasty?
This is a help site. Why can't you advise people? You know full well what was meant when he posted M2P. Most of us on here are looking for help not sarcasism.

Foo is not being nasty really, he is clueless as can be seen by his comment.

Nero didn't work last time I checked, I forget what version it is, but I have not tried for a few months. I did not try MPA though but it definitly did not like MPG....when I need to author again I will check around

Where do you see nasty in my post ? Some of the apps developers
got a little confused with file extensions. M2P apparently was
invented by Pinnacle and confuses other people/apps as to what it
is. It might look like MP2 enough to make you think it's audio.
It sure confused DVDlab. Check out Oscars' changelog about it.

I'm nasty at times , but not this time.
