I have just started to receive this interesting error trying to burn Sentinel 4x DVD-Rs on a DRU500A with Nero 5.5.10.42.
Five disks were already recorded at 4X without a problem and the first one to fail passed the recording ok when I dropped speed to 2x. The other 3 fail even if I drop recording speed to 1x.
Using RecordNowDX to record fails also, with an error message "sector xxx failed"
The error is generated as soon as Lead-in is supposed to finish and the track recording should start.
At the same time, I can record on TDK 4X +R disks without any problem on 4X, so I wouldn't suspect the drive.
OK, I will never buy Sentinel disks again, but wonder if anyone has seen the error or knows what it means.

The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.

And to make things more interesting, on the third attempt to record one of the disks at 1x, recording went past the Lead-in phase and started recording the track.
Also, once recording fails, the disk is not a coaster. It remains blank, so a new attempt is possible !!
It appears the failure is such that nothing is recorded on the disk. The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know. -
I'm suffering from the EXACT same problem and i cant find any info or solutions or even a frikkin suggestion for it online anywhere!!!!
I got my errors on some Bulkpaq Generation 4: 4X discs....the orange top ones. I'm not using them again after this. Ordered some Ritek ones but its really bugging me.... -
Long time since this thread has been posted and now it got a reply.
Well, if you are suffering from the same problem, don't buy the same brand of disks again. This is kinda the only cure for the problem. If you can't give them back, record at 1x and keep your fingers crossed.
I have been having some interesting problems (similar in nature) with CDs this time. Long time ago I bought a carusel of 50 low priced CDs (brand name Imation; don't know if it rings a bell). Haven't used them for some time until now, that I wanted to make some duplication work. The disks are supposedly rated for 48x and the SONY DRU500A is rated at 24x, so I figured I could record them at 24x. No Sir!
Best thing I could do with most of them was 12x. Some made it at 16x but none was good at 24x.
As stated a lot of times - but apparently not enough - in several threads, don't buy cheap media. Especially for achival purposes. The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know. -
I changed to Ritek discs and have not had any problems burning at 4X since.
Thanx for your reply. 8)
