So the backstory is that I bought a Mustek v520 about a year ago, and it's been working just fine until a week ago, when it suddently decided to stop working.

So I sent it back to the store where I'd bought it, and they were nice enough to not repair it, but send me a brand new one.

So I brought it home from the Post office, made it regionfree, tried a few discs, and then...it happened.
The picture froze after about 5 minutes of watching the Wrestlemania XVII DVD.
OK, no biggie I thought, and restarted the thing.

Then the real fun began, as nothing happened, and now I can't even get the disc out of the DVD player.

Any ideas what to do before I call the store on Monday and completely bltch them out?

Try unplugging it for several minutes then plugging it back in (for resetting the processor). If that doesn't work, open it up and see if you can access the loading motor (or gears) and turn them by hand to get your disc out. Unplug it first, of course, to avoid damage to the unit and yourself
Then plug it back in and see if it will load or unload, and if you trust it enough, put your disc back in and try again. If it continues to happen, take it back for another one.

But see the problem is that if I start messing with the INSIDES of the player, the warranty will probably expire verrrry quickly, and they won't replace it for me.

So I'm staying clear of that right now.

Shhhhhh. Don't tell them you opened it. Unless there is a tamperproof foil sticker on the outside sealing it, that screams "VOID" when you remove it, they don't have to know. Believe me, when I repaired equipment for Sony all those years, I saw many things that I suspected were tampered with, but I couldn't prove it (unless the customer was dumb enough to admit it). They had a very liberal policy anyway, for things that got stuck and removed/damaged mechanisms by customers (usually homemade porn of the wife jammed in unit ) but that's another story...
Just don't be hamfisted when you take it apart, and at least LOOK and see whatever you can see. Don't worry, they don't look for fingerprints inside. If you don't want to do that, your only other alternative is to take it back again for a replacement, right?

After speaking with them on the phone, I'm probably just gonna send the player back to them and HOPE they'll be able to get my disc out in good shape.

I also told them that I won't accept another Mustek, and they were fine with it, so now all I have to do is figure out what kinda Pioneer player I'm gonna get instead.

In that case I don't even want to know what'd happened if I'd put my "Driller Killer" DVD in there. :P
