  1. Hello All,

Strange thing. Ripped Star Trek Nemesis with DVDDecrypter (as normal) then run the file through Instantcopy ver 7. Put the finished disc into the set top player, boots as normal then goes black screen then blue screen with "This discs region is not compatible with your player" This was not my players own message, this is a message that I have not seen before. Changed regions several times but still got the same message. Decided to check the disc contents with DVDDecrypter, DVDDecrypter tells me that the region of the disc is 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 and 8. Not seen this before has anyone else? Does anyone know why? Does anyone know of a work around?

    Many Thanks for you time

  2. Check all the IFO files in something like IFOedit - chances are there is more than one of them with region coding (like I found by accident with my R1 The Transporter when I made a backup to run on my second, non chipped R2 player).

  3. Cheers Mate,

Do you or anyone know if there is something that I can use inbetween DVDDecrypter and Instantcopy to rectify this problem. May be it's settings in either program that I have to change. I don't really want to change my way of working as it has, up until now, been rock solid with superb quality. Time is the only issue but I can live with that.

    Thanks

  4. Yeah, IFOedit...

Decrypt the disc / movie to your hard disc, and then in turn, load each IFO file into IFOedit and click on the Region Free button.

If it says "no region coding found in this IFO" then move onto the next, but if it changes anything, make sure you then click on the save button to save the edited IFO back to the hard disk. Let it make the BUP file too.

Then you should be able to burn the collection of files to a DVD+/-R with no further problems.

    Easy money !

I will try to get hold of IFOEdit and give it a whirl.

  6. The problem is almost certainly caused by Instantcopy. I rip and re-author most of the movies I buy and own because the wretched studios now include long commercials for other DVDs which you cannot bypass. Solution? Rip the movie strip out all the garbage, and re-author it.
Using DVDDecrypter I've never had a problem. DVDDecrypter, as you know, typically strips out MacroVision and region coding and everything else. Using a typical authoring app like DVDLab or Prassi or DVD Maestro you have to actually go through hoops to include any features like region coding.
Instead of using Instantcopy, you may want to try using something like DVDShrink to squeeze the VOB file down to something that'll fit on a single 4.7-gig DVD-R. That, or simply use Chopper XP to cut the VOB into 2 parts (if it's too large) and split the movie onto 2 DVD-Rs.
However, in my experience many commercial movies on DVD use only one 4.7 gig layer for the actual movie itself, and the other layer for all the extras -- deleted scenes, commercials for other DVDs, audio commentary, audio tracks in various languages, blah blah blah.
In my experience it's always better to extract the VOB and demux to m2v and AC3 files and then re-author the movie, rather than using some automated piece of software like Instantcopy. You are apt to run into problems if the software does something dodgy to the VOB file, as seems to be the case here.

  7. Back Again!!!

Ok, run the files through IFOEdit. Started with the main movie which said that there was no region but then threw up a message saying "Your file is now region free, enjoy" I saved the file including the bup and continued with the remaining files to be sure. Run the files through IC 7 again and have the same problem again. The disc claims to be region 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 and 8.

    Now lost!!!
