I just bought Pinnacle Instant CD/DVD which includes Instant Copy(available free after rebate at Best Buy) and tried to use Instant Copy to burn movie from HD to DVD, But it doesn't show my DVD burner (Sony DRU510A) in the Destination window, it only shows the HD.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software, I also installed SP1 onto WinXP, my next attempt was going to be to upgrade the firmware to 1.0c but I have read people who upgraded to this firmware have had problems writing to DVDs, so I rather not upgrade firmware if I don't have to. The I can burn fine with Nero 6 and RecordNow DX, but the reason I want to try Instant Copy is because I have heard that Instant Copy produces better compression results than DVDShrink and the movie I want to burn is ~6.4GB so I was wanting to experiment this theory of quality with Instant Copy.

Anyone know what the problem might be?

You should go to pinnacle's website and download the latest update patch for it, that should remedy your problem

I wouldn't burn with Instant Copy if I were you.

I'm proud to say that I have only made 2 coasters...once on my very first DVD backup and it was a RW disc so not really a coaster and the other was burning through IC7. I know it's a few extra steps converting the pdi files to ISO and then checking the movie through Daemon Tools before burning with decrypter or nero or whatever. But one of my movies coming out of IC7 would play the VOB files in the wrong order. I don't know whether I compressed something too far and threw off the time stamp or what, but after that coaster I downloaded Daemon Tools and always check them before burning. I have caught others that would have been messed up had I not checked them. Most recently Rush Hour 2.

And if they are messed up you can rip the DVD from the ISO file and then use IFOedit to get everything straightened out.

Just my opinion, you can do what you want, it's your money.

  5. Go here http://www.mrbass.org/instantcopy/ download pdi2iso_011.zip this will make the PDI file's into one big ISO file then you can burn with DVDDecrypter pr NERO

  6. I too am having trouble using Instant Copy with a SONY. My SONY is the DRU-500A, it's a 2X (or should I say 2.4X) rather than your 4X. IC recognized it, but when it gets to 99% it gives a read error and I have to cancel and get nothing. I've tried everything. Setting error retries, saving log, etc.. The best I get is that it hangs at 99% and never comes back. I even made a short 10 minute clip. Notta. I upgraded the SONY firmware (a 2.4X to 4X fix). And when I upgraded IC with the 7.11 patch and it REALLY hoses. Fails as soon as I start with a read error that is unrecoverable. Uninstall and reinstall without the patch, back to hang at 99%. I wonder if there is a problem using IC with SONY's or maybe it's that I'm using DVD+R. I made my DVD's on a Phillips DVD+R through firewire. I'm also mad that I paid $30 for IC and you mentioned it's free??? Think I might be headed for Nero. I'm interested in hearing if you have any success. If you could post what you had to do I would really appreciate it.

P.S. Can it be a problem to have other DVD s/w on the system even if it's not running (maybe it loads something un-seen)?

  7. I would rip the DVD to the HD, then run instant copy and have it output the HD. This will generate a series of PDI files. You can then burn the pdi files with DVD Decrypter (freeware) by choosing "Mode | Iso - write" and loading the first pdi file in the series.

I've done this several times and never produced a single coaster.

  8. So why can't Instant Copy image it to disk? IC fails to copy from my homemade DVD's to the HD. Tried different HD's. I'm starting to think that the DVD+R's made on the Phillips DVRR75 external burner might be copyprotected. I'm reading the manual to see. If so, I sure didn't mean to copyprotect my own stuff.

    Like I said before, I wouldn't burn with IC7.

Sometimes IC7 or I will compress something too far and the DVD won't play right.

You will have better luck if you just write the pdi files to your hard drive, then use pdi2iso to convert them and use decrypter to burn it.
