  1. Hi guys and gals...

My problem is related to conversions from DivX/Xvid to DVD. I am pretty new to DVD in terms of writing them myself and was wondering what the best way of converting is...

At the moment I am uncompressing the audio using virtual dub into pcm and was converting the DivX/Xvid video to .d2v using TmpegEnc...

However, Tmpg was giving me really choppy video and I'm guessing this is due to it having to play about with the compression format first??
I was using the DVD template and the video ES only option... Is this correct?

I then decided to see if uncompressing the video (Virtual Dub) it would give better results in Tmpg. But I was greeted with an "Ooops VD has crashed" message:

An integer division by zero occurred in module 'xvid'...
...while decompressing video frame 16175 with "XviD MPEG-4 Codec" [biCompression=44495658] (VideoSource.cpp:1516)...
    ...while running thread "Processing" (thread.cpp:105).

Is this a bad frame or something similar?? How can I correct this? DivXfix or something?

What is a better way to convert the files?

My last question: I am going to use Nero 6 to burn the DVD, when I ask it to make a DVD it presents me with the audio_TS and video_TS flders on the DVD, do I drag the .d2v into the video_ts folder and wav file into the audio one??

Sorry for the long and probably stupid questions. Thanks for any help!!

  2. The choppy video - I have just realised I have been clicking on the PAL template and Premiere just told me it's 23.98 fps, so that bit should be sorted now...

    - Nope Tmpeg keeps crashing when trying to do it...

Here's what I do for DIVX ---> DVD. It generally works OK.

Open up TMPEnc and use the wizard. select the PAL/NTSC template and keep clicking, but don't start the encoding straight away.

When asked for the size of the final file, I make it around 3.2G. That way I can then place the original DIVX (If its about 700M) on the DVD, so that I can always go back to the original.

Open up the unlock template and now go to the settings and make any adjustments there. There are guides on using TMPEnc on this site.

I always encode about 3000 frames as a test. (use source range). Then a quick run through Ulead MF2 and try out the test clip in PowerDVD.

If its all OK, then I encode the full film overnight.

Now what you should have is just one large MPG. Use an authoring program like Ulead to create the necessary VOBs. Its these you need to drop into the VIDEO_TS folder in Nero. Also, if you want to keep the sorce, create another directory, call it SOURCE or whatever and drop you original DIVX in it.

You can't just drop the d2v file in the VIDEO_TS folder, you'll end up with a coaster.

Ignore the AUDIO_TS directory, it's there for DVD audio.

    Hope this helps
