OK, so I've figured out that my new Sony DVD burner likes TDK DVD-R discs and so does my main DVD player (Toshiba SD-6200). Now the trouble I'm having is getting DVD Lab to compile properly for me.
I've ripped some scenes out of a movie (The Insider) and then brought those ripped VOBs into DVD Lab. If I do NOT let the program demux the file and just bring in the VOB directly, I get no audio when I compile. If I let the program demux the files (where I usually end up with one MPV and one AC3 file), certain scenes will compile properly, but others come back with the CANNOT PACKETIZE AUDIO STREAM message during the compile, and there's no audio on those clips. It happens to the SAME AC3 clips every time, and I've tried ripping those scenes with both DVD Decrypter and Smart Ripper: same result. Also the same result when using the 1.1 and 1.3 beta versions of DVD Lab.
Any suggestions on what I can try? I'd easily pay for DVD Lab if I could get it work properly. Is there another program less quirky at handling this type of thing? I'm simply trying to pull scenes from my DVD collection and make a compilation. Thanks in advance for any help!

I think that DVDLAB still doesn't support AC3 audio. Check the website feature list or the manual for confirmation. If I am correct, then you need to either use a program like besweet to convert the AC3 into WAV or a program like VirtualDUB modification for MPEG-2 and AC3 to save the audio in WAV. You must then compress the audio in MPEG layer II.
It appears that only more expensive programs can handle AC3 audio for DVD authoring (like Adobe Encore)The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know. -
Yes, it SUPPORTS it, but I think the problem is with the way I'm ripping the DVD... for some reason, the same tracks keep coming out with bad audio (AC3) files... anyone have a good suggestion for a program for ripping DVDs other than Smart Ripper and DVD Decrypter?

For two channel dolby, 192 or 224 kbs is fine. I need to look up for 5.1.....
And DVDlab muxes AC3 audio just fine!-----------------------------------------------------

Try ripping in IFO stream mode and rip the entire movie and demux the video and the audio at the same time in dvddecrypter.
Use a tool like videoredo to pull out a small section of video/audio that you need for your production.-----------------------------------------------------
