  1. I'm trying to convert .wmv to SVCD (using the SVCD Quick Preset) but I keep getting the following error:

**ERROR: [yuvscaler] Could'nt read YUV4MPEG header!
**ERROR: [mpeg2enc] Could not read YUV4MPEG2 header: system error (failed read/write)!

If I hit the Play button, the file plays back perfectly, so ffmpeg doesn't seem to have a problem decoding it. The file is in Windows Media Video/Audio V7 format.

Any ideas? Thanks for the help :-) :(

  2. Can you upload the file somewhere, so as I can test with it?

  3. I've been using the 'sample.asf' file that comes with the OS X version of Windows Media Player - I've just noticed it's WMV V8 (although I'm sure I've had the same error with a V7 file I used some time ago).

The file's only 328Kb - shall I mail it to you?

  4. I found such file on my computer, thanks.

Pesky .asf and .wmv files have often the audio and video stream in inverted order, so the SVCD encoder was trying to encode audio to video.

Your easiest option is to first convert such files to .avi mencoder and then go back from the .avi to SVCD. However wmav2 audio is not supported, so you probably need to find a way to extract the audio with another application, convert it to mp3 and add it to the .avi with AviTool before converting the .avi to SVCD.

  5. Thanks for the help, I'll give that a go
