What version of Nero you are using? Nero Express caused a lot of confusion to me but Nero Burning Rom is OK for erasing DVD-RW and CDRW. Did you try to click "CD" tab and then select "DVD"?

I'm using the latest nero. I even tried dvdinfopro, and it too behaves as if this once used dvd-rw disk is invisible. Why cant my computer even see this disk?

Can you browse and play the disc in windows ?

I had this problem and it ended up being because I updated the firmware in my burner (104) to all@2x and it screwed up my rw's the only way to fix mine was update the firmware to standard and give the rw disk to a freind that had the 105 and it worked fine in his drive... Not sure if this is your problem but it sounded simular to what happened to me...

Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it. -
I have the cendyne 4x + burner, and have not updated any firmware. Also, this dvd is not being seen by my computer's explorer.
What is interesting is that my sony dreamsystem can play the partial burn on my television, but my computer burner drive no longer even sees the disk. -

I found that Nero obliterated my -RW during erasure, too. That means the disk was not recognized after Nero. I also noticed a peculiar pattern on the -RW that was further away form the inner-center than it should have been. I ended up throwing about 5 disks away due to this.
I now use Ulead MovieFactory 2.0 for any erasing I do. It is safer to use. -
I think Princo DVD-RW quality really sucks. I have no problem erasing my Maxell DVD-RW (made in Japan by JVC) with any software mentioned in my above post and erased many times! The two Princo -RW disks showed no capacity after format by DVDinfo and then back to 23GB after erase action by these softwares, very strange.

I had the same problem with an older TDK DVD-RW (TDK DVD-RW47S). I use Nero 5.5.10.28 to "quick erase" the above DVD-RW to backup one of my current purchases on my Toshiba SDR5002 burner. ((I use the RW to test burn before I actually burn to DVD-R (Princo) to try to avoid as many coasters as possible)). Now whenever I try to use the 'erased' DVD-RW to burn, my computer thinks it is a CD-RW. I looked at the recording surface, and halfway across the discs surface from center of disc is a totally different color - like it formatted it in CD-RW format instead of DVD-RW(?). Anyone ever have this problem? If so, were you able to recover the RW capability of the media? And if not, does anyone know of good/reliable media that can replace this TDK or where I can get this particular RW? (I have used this disc > 100 times, so it may have just lived it's life and be "it's time" to go.)

I'm still trying to find an answer to this same problem. I am using an Optorite DD0203 dual format writer flashed to v2.23. I am running Windows ME and Nero Burning ROM v 6.3.0.0. Media is Fujifilm 4.7GB DVD-RW. I've burned two coasters that will not reformat or erase. I've used DVDInfo and it doesn't format or erase either. Windows Explorer and Nero do not even recognize that a disc is loaded to the writer.
Is there a way to ever recover these discs so that they can be erased and reformatted? Anyone with information please reply. You can also send me email.
thx
