Hi, yes that is normal. Depends on pc spec and also the movie.
You could try dvdshrink - fast and quick.
I am trying out IC8, did Pearl Harbour last night, did movie and menus set to the fastest setting. Took 37 minutes. The movie is just under 3 hours long playing time.

Ya a P3 1ghz is a poor encoder. My AMD Athlon 1ghz/100 FSB on a SDRAM board is bout that speed too. Over 512MB of ram isnt gonna do ya much good really. The speed is more important. My 2100+ OC'd to 2700+ is like 90 minutes on the same movie, same settings. It has DDR memory in dual channel nForce2 format. Thats a sweet combo. There is a new core of AMD 1700+ out called the JIUHB core. DONT get the faster ones, the 1700 is just EVIL in it's overclocking. Actual clock speeds on decent air cooling are in excess of 2.2ghz. Buy some decent DDR 3500ish ram and an Nforce2 board and go for it. The CPU is $47 frome Gameve.com (******** but free basic shipping). I got mine today. On an ASUS Nforce2 board. SWEET. Blows that 2100+ away. Its faster actual clock speed with h igher fsb/memory bandwidth and runs cooler still yet. Its a sweet bang for the buck.

I have a PIII 733-MHz. It takes me around 3 1/2 to 4 hours to make a backup using IC. I also do a lot of encoding (home video) with TMPGEnc Plus, Video Capture (Cartoons for my son) and authoring from PBS and Nick Jr. Most of my CPU and time intensive tasks I start before I go to bed or leave for work. I really work my computer. I do, however, long for a motherboard-CPU-memory upgrade.

Saw your post over in CDfreaks. Yes it's normal. Think that's bad, when compiling a DVD from captured video it took 14 hours to complete the whole process using Studio 8.

wow a 1.3?wow thatz fast, you can get a 2400xp athalon
for like 70 bucks now throw in an ecs board for 50 bucks
and with all the memory you got, you got an up to date sys..
sell a gig of that on ebay...
